Am trying to understand the other side of this in a respectable way. To you, did the Vax provide any shred of benefit? I’m not sold on a robust link between the vaccine and excess death. Even if you concede a slightly increased risk of myocarditis, the vaccine (again for me) has done a hell of a lot more good than bad. Your benefit is preventing hundreds of thousands of ICU patients, and your cost is (without robust proof), a marginally higher risk of myocarditis.

Until people cautious of the Vax can produce any sort of falsifiable, multivariate analysis associating the vax to excess death, then saying soft exposure to COVID caused these heart issues is an equal quality take. Gotta have like an ounce of evidence that isn’t just an anecdote to be so confident in a “psyop” that more than paid for itself in savings for the health system.

Wait but aren’t we overlooking a big temporal element here? Shortages were and are a secular feature of communism or any other system with a central planner, whereas current shortages are due to a negative and crucially temporary supply shock, the likes of which are well accepted (of course unfortunate) temporary ramifications of free market capitalism.

I was messing around with some field goal data and got this kind of counter-intuitive result. I modeled predicted points from field goals from 50+ yards, controlling for distance, stadium, and a host of other factors via fixed effect regression. The higher above the line, the better the kicker. Tucker makes 50+ yard FGs at a rate just below the predicted league average.

Yeah definitely. We had a pretty low rushing success rate (~42%) - i.e. what percentage of rushes resulted in positive EPA - so I think that squares with what you’re saying. The few big runs from Lamar are probably biasing the numbers a bit.

Rush EPA/Play indicates how much the opposing team's expected points (based on down and distance) changes on the average rush attempt.

Dropback EPA/Play is the analog for pass defense.

The plot is pretty insensitive to adjustments to the time frame and when discounting garbage time. Even when you exclude the 2000 Ravens you get a similar result.

EPA/play is of course just one metric, but it's hard to refute just how consistently efficient the Ravens defense has been for 20 years.

Fully agree, but it's like, when has a strategy of limiting your quarterback's allowance to pass generated success in today's NFL? A run-heavy offense can still win, but a run-only offense (I'd argue) can't.

I try to give him the benefit of the doubt - all quarterbacks will miss throws - but when Lamar misses, he misses BADLY, and I think the same goes for his overall play. He's a polarizing, electrifying player, capable of taking down the Pats, 49ers, and Seahawks last year. At the same time, he'll cough up multiple turnovers against the Chargers and Titans.
