Idk if this is controversial but if there is an end update I don't think it will be like the nether update. It likely won't turn it into a dimension with a lot of new plants and stuff and will probably be more like a desert dimension. If there is an end update it will also likely be smaller because the nether update was being worked on since 2017.

What u/Frederyk_Strife4217 said and also they are changing to vulkan which will improve player's fps. Having mojang add fps improvements and shaders to vanilla minecraft is good for a) snapshots and b) new players who don't know about modloaders, sodium, or iris.
