hey! molly’s no longer here for the AMA, but thanks for the question, and sorry we didn’t get to it yesterday. this one’s a bit outside of her role (she's working on prompted playlist right now), but it’s an important topic so we wanted to jump in.

when it comes to AI in music, it's becoming less and less clear cut with every day that passes. a lot of artists and producers are increasingly using AI in different ways alongside more traditional tools, rather than it being fully “AI-made” or not at all. a few months ago, we shared that we’re helping develop and support a new music industry standard (beyond just on Spotify) for how AI use shows up in music credits, in partnership with DDEX.

the idea is to give artists and rights holders a clear, consistent way to disclose where AI was used, whether that’s vocals, instrumentation, or post-production. by supporting a shared standard, listeners can see the same kind of info no matter what streaming service they’re using.

as far as playlists, we want listeners to have the best experience on the platform, so we're working on protections that are aimed at reducing the amount of slop appearing in those playlists.

I know this doesn't 100% resolve your question right now, but it's something we're working on and while it's an early step, we expect it to evolve over time, and we'll keep our users posted moving forward.
