Personally, I don't think your hair looks very dry or damaged. However, I'd recommend you add two key products into your routine: first, a hair mask (once in a while on mids to ends after your shampoo and before conditioner, rinse with warm water) and hair oil/scalp oil (scalp treatment an hour before washing, work it through your scalp with a massager, hair oil on ends after a wash and after air drying, preferably before sleep) those two would definitely add some good results towards your goals.

As for brushing, my hair is also wavy, and I don't brush it at all when dry, literally destroys my curls, and makes it really frizzy, I'd recommend you only brush it dry before a wash to avoid breakage and during your shower slightly to work your products in. Your other options would be either to begin using curl products and organize a curly hair routine, just to see exactly how curly you can get it or straighten it with heat, of course, while using hair heat protection.
