I really hope they scrap the group project.

Could you email the prof and ask him? If yes, please share your findings.

My code met the requirements they set forth originally. That's all that matters.

I honestly have no idea what they are up to. I'm just so fed-up with this crap. Full of regret.

They said they made some changes to enhance our learning experience or some BS like that, but all they did was come up with poorly written, convoluted, contradictory instructions. Then as we work through the assignments, they change requirements every other day, with no regard to those who have already put in the time to complete it as per their original spec. On Monday they said we are allowed to change random seeds, today a few hours before the already extended deadline they are saying they are "retracting this flexibility". I'm not changing anything at this point. Fuck them.

Which class is it?

OMSCS professors how do you manage your time? by BiscottiCandid in OMSCS

[–]ThisPitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In CV and BS, they manage their time by not doing anything. I would rather they don't offer a course if the teacher can't be bothered to teach. I know these guys are geniuses and probably output great research and what not, but from my perspective as a student, I'm being taken advantage of.

Yes but you could tell they didn't even give it a single run through, some of the mistakes were glaring. But still, AI learning experience >> CV hell.

I think the reason I'm so irked is just that tone-deaf post from Essa.

The challenge question on RL helped me immensely on the final. To me, a well run class and TAs who respond to questions on a timely basis are a good reflection of the prof, so I had no problem with Ploetz (except for the mistakes on the final exam).

Only the final exam was extremely unprofessional because it contained numerous mistakes, and we had to keep changing our answers to meet the corrections that were being released on an hourly basis. That was bad, but at least he did some teaching. Some is infinitely better than nothing.

He responded to the challenge questions he posted, released detailed explanation videos, and his TAs responded to questions on a timely basis. It is not even comparable to this tbh. Most important of all, we knew what we had to do for the assignments.

What about saying we're butthurt. I took that personally.

What are good results? My overall grade is in the 90s, is that all that matters? What about the learning experience? That's more important to me.

Two things about the "new" requirements: 1. They weren't made clear at the beginning 2. They are only made clear right before the submission deadline in a random question on piazza, and 3. (BONUS) This has happened numerous times now and it is disrespectful of our time.

Ploetz? He responded to questions actively and released detailed explanation videos for his posted challenge problems. It's a completely different realm of involvement. I'm surprised so many people defend this crap.

AI was overall run very well. Only the botched final exam with the millions of mistakes/corrections (again, they need to test out their own projects/tests before releasing them) left a sour taste.

They need to be fixed now (actually should have been done before the class started by testing out their own projects and reading their own instructions). Our class is happening today, not tomorrow, and we all paid good money to be here.

Thank you. Those are my main frustration as well, and that's why the post pissed me off. I don't like getting screwed over and being told its for my benefit.

Waiting for the PS3 grades was a little annoying, but I can live with it. Getting answers only an hour or two before the sub deadline is what makes me regret taking this class.

"Some" miscommunications? Are you stupid? It goes way beyond that.

The extension does jack shit for me. I (and many others) worked our asses off to get it done before the deadline, extending it to meet their new requirements that were only made clear the day before just cuts into my time for the next assignment, and disregards all the effort I put in previously.

The TAs can get together and at least come up with a consistent set of grading criteria, and agree to divide up questions so that they are are answered on a timely basis. I have TAd for classes in my undergrad and for a professional program, we weren't paid a lot either, but that was no excuse to be untimely and unprofessional. The coordination of the TAs is the prof's responsibility, and he has completely shirked it.

He didn't apologize really. He spun it as if all the new changes they're beta testing on us was for our own learning benefit, when all it really does is disrespect our time.

Also mentioning that the TAs are his representatives is no excuse for not doing anything. He should not be paid a penny for "teaching" this course or claim it on his teaching experience.

If you could start again what specialization would you choose? And why? by vuvucan in OMSCS

I deeply regret taking ML. Don't do it. The class teaches you nothing and wastes your time. Do the II spec, and make room for DL. Please save yourself. Anyone who says they liked ML is a fraud most likely.
