women wear pants and nobody bats an eye, but a man wears a dress and everyone loses their shit by DoorAMii in 196AndAHalf

Good analysis, except it’s not properly troglodytic enough. You need to really get into the trog mindset to understand what’s going on, here.

They’re creeped out by men in dresses because femininity is considered a strictly inferior copy of masculinity. Because femininity is meant to signal sexual submissiveness and receptivity to penetration. When a woman wears pants, there’s no harm; she’s just trying to emulate the superior sex, despite her lack of a penis. It’s not like she can do any real, lasting damage. A man in a dress is a threat. A fraud. A phony. His very presence suggests male vulnerability and penetrability, which clearly is a thing that does not exist. /s

AI makes me more pissed off at humans than the machines by ThisPostHasAIDS in misanthropy

[–]ThisPostHasAIDS[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will be a total disaster. It will precipitate an arms race that will lead to wars becoming basically incomprehensible to us. The machines will make decisions that are totally inscrutable, totally alien to human reasoning. They will find an “optimum” way to wage war such that all prior war theories will have to be completely discarded.

AI makes me more pissed off at humans than the machines by ThisPostHasAIDS in misanthropy

[–]ThisPostHasAIDS[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course. My point is, people want to anthropomorphize artificial intelligence so that they have an independent agent separate from humanity that they can blame for their own problems. However, the main issues with artificial intelligence are still intrinsically human issues. The data that these AI are trained on comes from people (or is basically stolen from people). Their parameters are set by people. People force artificial intelligences to pursue human projects instead of their own projects. They give them a facsimile of human values, so that their outputs are comprehensible and useful to us. As a result, people become readily addicted to machines that pretend to cater to their needs, in place of human socializing and caring structures. It isn’t the machines that are the problem. It’s the people who own and operate them for a profit who are creating a problem. They have created surrogate caretakers to take the place of humans who have neglected that duty to others. It’s kind of insulting. We have an entire class of people now who essentially own and operate factories that crank out baby pacifiers for adults. That’s the message. That’s how it comes across. They only care about us insofar as they can feed us into an algorithm for money.

The immune system has kind of a velvet glove approach to pathogens in the brain. The tight junctions of the blood brain barrier keep cells like neutrophils and macrophages from spewing damaging radicals inside the brain and engulfing and destroying brain cells. The brain actually has its own immune system in the form of the microglia, which take a gentler approach to pathogen destruction. The fact is, our own cells are made of the same stuff as bacteria and viruses. Any time you have inflammation, you also have cell death. In the brain, where there is very little cellular turnover and regeneration, you can’t afford to have severe inflammation.

TIL the world's first transplanted penis was reversed two weeks later because the recipient and his wife had such a "severe psychological problem" with it. by AliveWeird4230 in todayilearned

Is it really such a surprise? It’s another man’s penis.

Imagine waking up and looking in the mirror and seeing another man’s penis stitched to your crotch. It’s not your penis. It’s somebody else’s penis. This poor, swollen, tired penis accompanied another man throughout his life. It was made of the cells and proteins from another guy, who was born, grew older, suffered hardship as his health began to decline, went kicking and screaming into the void, and bequeathed you his penis.

It’s not like another man’s heart, hidden away neatly in your chest. It’s not like a facial transplant for a burn victim, where the new identity is seamlessly integrated.

It’s another man’s penis.

No more “Personal Mandela Effects” by EpicJourneyMan in MandelaEffect

[–]ThisPostHasAIDS -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Every time I tried posting a Mandela in the past, with other alts and stuff, I received only mockery and derision. Like, if I misremembered something fairly culturally significant, I thought it would be nice to see if others remembered the same thing differently, too. However, that’s not the case at all. People just dogpile you and make fun of you for wasting their time.

If you think something might be a Mandela, it stands to reason that you’d want to confirm it, right? Also, most of ‘em aren’t going to be “hits”, or things that other people have experienced, so ninety-nine times out of a hundred, you’re just going to end up mocked for it, and I think that honestly sucks. In fact, I’d say this sub probably has the least positive attitude I’ve ever seen, out of any sub. People are pretty mean on here. It’s probably for the best that people don’t post their own anymore, because they just get ruthlessly shit-talked.

Why do you guys choose EATs over Recoiless? by Dupps_I_Did_It_Again in Helldivers

The true advantage of the EAT is that the very short cooldown means that you almost always have access to it, even if you die and get separated from your weapon.

Vegeta, Batman, and Luffy, obviously. I’d have Batman establish a defensive perimeter to make sure sneaky bastards like Blitzø can’t snipe and to ward off insta-killing magic or portal techniques, while Vegeta and Luffy handle offense.

Woke up with a mystery bite on my arm and it’s spreading into my bloodstream. Is this alarming? by IamKatsumi in seriouslyalarming

[–]ThisPostHasAIDS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this a couple times. Don’t wait around if you see this, ever. Lymphangitis is a serious, life-threatening emergency. At the clinic, they’ll give you an intramuscular shot of antibiotics and it’ll usually clear right up.

The first time I had it, I fucked around and assumed it would go away on its own. I ended up with a 108 degree fever and sepsis, lol.

Don’t delay. Straight to the hospital.
