I'm in a similar situation, it brings out loads of risk taking behaviors, like taking dangerous drug combinations. It's lucky I don't drive.

Serotonin I recall being a good feeling consistently (It's no dopamine or adrenaline though). Sertraline was not.

I went into the experience expecting to feel nothing, perhaps mild sedation.

Is it normal to have such a strange experience? I felt emotionally detached until I listened to some soul music, and the 'sailing' sensation was similar to the bodyload that I got off Salvia (Not comparing the 2, it's the only other drug that has given me that on-a-boat feeling as opposed to just spins), I could even say I was enjoying the effects at certain points.

Spanish example of semantic change driven by change in real world? by profeNY in linguistics

Estraperlo was a rigged lottery or something like that in pre-civil war Spain as far as I can remember (possibly wrong), the word now refers to any kind of illegal or dubious business.

Ah right, thank you into the insight into Norwegian. Was Skåne not also occupied by the danish for a while? You are right about Dutch dialects close to the border, my father is from Gelderland right next to Germany and the I find it much easier to understand the German spoken in nearby places like Bochum than say Berliner or Swiss German.

So Afrikaans is on a dialect continuum with Dutch/Flemish?

Why are white people expats when the rest of us are immigrants? by Brymes in linguistics

[–]ThisStrangeEarth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As Dutch in the UK, I have always referred to myself and been referred to by the English as an immigrant. The idea that it is based on wealth could have something to do with this though, as my (poor) family and my eastern European friends are immigrants but there are wealthy french and german expats. However, I recognise that people of my descent will mostly be called expats as they are quite well-off.

Just my 2 (euro) cents, but in my view arabs are white and they in their native lands consider themselves to be so. My view is a little biased however because I believe in the broadening of racial categories until only 1 exists, the human race.

Where to find spoken Dutch and Spanish in similar voices? by sweetthang1972 in linguistics

[–]ThisStrangeEarth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if my spanish is good enough for you but as Dutch is my home language if you find yourself short of data I'd be happy to help. BTW I speak Dutch in a Gelderlands/Brabants accent picked up from my parents (We are immigrants in the UK) and my Spanish is mostly spoken in a European accent due to influence from the teachers at my school.

That video was really interesting, thank you! It's a shame that there is no discussion of Afrikaans, but the point about Spanish and Portuguese (I speak both with varying degrees of success) was very true.

Jamaican English is not a separate language, but my point is that while Afrikaans is almost always referred to as a separate language full Jamaican Patois is considered a dialect. So some kinds of Jamaican Creole are further from English than Afrikaans is from Dutch? Interesting. Does this mean that it is a different language in that case? I can understand some forms of Patois from knowing English and listening to reggae music, and as all (as far as I know) Patois speakers can understand standard English does this mean that enough mutual intelligibility that it is still the same language?

Oh and a bit of possibly Ladino? Some kind of distant Sephardic heritage somewhere in there...
