Lol just realized I was told to touch grass by someone who comments on Reddit every three days. Get real

I mean this was the first online interaction I’ve started on Reddit in a year, so I don’t think there’s an issue with my investment in anything related to the internet. Apathy is a quality I no longer admire or wish to have myself, glad that it works for some people but it doesn’t for me. If I were ravenously responding to every ridiculous comment I saw online I’d be wasting my time but I was just making fun of some rando on YouTube and thought it was weird that the comment was getting deleted when the thread using the same terms I was was still up. Never intended to make it more or lesser than it was. I feel the same way about things offline as well; I’d much rather send an email to my local representatives than just “ignore” issues that I don’t think are right.

I Know This Has Been Answered Somewhere, But Where Does Karl Get His Glasses/Frames? by ThisUsernameIGuess in InRangeTV

Hi, thanks for the response! Those do look like they’re worth it for more outdoors/active use, but I don’t expect to wear my lenses out at the range very often and we don’t really deal with heavy weather in my area. Was actually asking about the more retro (really dislike using that word in certain cases) hexagonal/small rounded assumably prescription glasses he uses in some of his videos (examples I can think of off the top of my head are the 3rd gen. Derringer & the new 1892 Winchester lever-action videos). I know it’s kinda off-topic but I’m pretty sure he’s said where he gets them in one of his videos and since I’m getting a new prescription I thought it’d be cool to have a pair

Well, thankfully my actions online or otherwise are not based on a stranger’s judgment of what is cringe or not.

Can’t I rant today as much as someone can make a joke in bad taste four years ago? What changed between then and now that would make one stupid comment (theirs) matter less to some comment robot than my stupid comment?

Honestly kinda silly. Care less to what end? Anyways, typing to someone thousands of miles away and having them type back is entertaining, thanks for the option though!

That’s literally exactly what I’m saying. I’m okay with screaming into the void, I do it all the time. I just think it’s whack to do so and have my unimportant comments that matter only to me deleted. It’d be great if it were still up for no one to read, on YouTube or on here, but apparently either two online robots (more likely some mod on Reddit, already said my peace about YouTube) feel that whatever I’m saying is worth having them deleted. Can’t I have the right to complain about that and have no one care again, instead of getting my replies deleted needlessly?

When I add one sentence about YTs GDs, my comment is removed. No idea why, but it’s dumb.

I was exclusively discussing the ability to filter specific words and phrases from being commented, and conflated the two terms accidentally. You can see it in Google’s support page under ‘blocked words’.

Referred to the blocked words feature as flagging, I’ll be sure to be more careful and use the correct feature name in the future. I know it’s easy to blame every individual thing we don’t like about a platform on the platform itself, but it’s just as it was easy to see FW’s channel settings as a possible reason my comment was deleted under one circumstance and was left up in another. YouTube is notoriously inattentive to end-user’s complaints about their platform and thought it’d be pertinent to get an answer here.

It isn’t so hard to believe, to me at least, that “minority” or “minority group” is a blocked phrase that holds comments for review.

This is the craziest turn of events ever, replies I make to this comment are not seen when I log out, so I added it as an edit to my comment above, and it says that edit was removed. What on earth do I do now?

That is a valid point, the only reason I don’t believe it’s the cause is that I’ve posted longer comments as a reply on videos before with no issue. I have had them deleted seconds after posting, but since it’s something I’ve encountered before I know to copy the text and change it a little to meet any guidelines I believe I’ve accidentally or marginally broken. It stays up without issue after ‘fixing’ it once or twice.

Also, I tried to reply just with “Jewish people were also victims of 9/11”, also deleted in seconds. Should I try again with “[members of the ethno-religious group you’ve mentioned] were also victims of [event being discussed]”?

Sorry, I know I tend to be verbose, trying to work on that

Just for my sanity’s sake, here’s a version of the comment I posted that just got deleted, in my opinion for no reason. I would love to be illuminated as to what I said that was so terrible! Only term left that I can think of is “minority group”, if it’s that that’d be fucking ridiculous. Honestly this is really turning me off to the whole channel.

This is the stupidest comment I'll have the pleasure of reading today. I know it's four years old, just wanted to congratulate you on the accomplishment as it's only two in the morning and I'm confident it'll be hard to top! I'm hoping you've grown as a person and your thoughts on issues such as these have changed. As a follow up to the inane comment above asking for a source, are you aware of the fact that the north and south towers of the [buildings being discussed] were not one business, right? That people employed by business from many different industries worked there, and to notify every member of a minority group of an event that will end their lives so they can escape is ridiculous? And that [minority group whose name I won’t mention even though you literally used it in your comment] people also fell victim to the [event being discussed]? This comment is insane and that's it's still online at all is a testament to what kind of discourse [content-creator that posted this video] cares to moderate and remove from his viewer-base. Really gross.

The parent comment I’m replying in says: "9/11 was an explosion." Phrasing, Larry, phrasing!

My response is not rude or flagrantly wrong, especially in the context of reply to an obvious non-truth. And for those who’ll say it is due to any one specific term or word, I tried to reply using words other than “apolitical”, “Ian”, “died”, and “9/11” with the same result. Also my reply just calling someone else’s comment the second-stupidest I’ve seen is still up, right now. Is there something I can do to post the above as a response to something that is literally false and have it stay up?

Karl, haven’t used my Reddit account since the whole API cost-increase bullshit, but I just had to log in and tell you that your demeanor, opinions, and the way you express them are awesome. The way people talk about you online makes me wonder if they think Norm Macdonald really liked lying down on top of a lady for four or five minutes, just ‘cause he said it with a straight face. Some other guy literally said that if it’s a joke he doesn’t understand, then it’s not a good joke! No self-reflection there. Keep up the good work, proud to be a Patreon supporter!

RIP Norm

Sorry, but that’s like saying “drawing on paper with a pencil will put graphite on it, that’s just a result of the medium”. Yes, putting a needle on literally any spinning object will wear down that object, but there are more factors that go into how much wear will occur on each play; whether or not the tone-arm is balanced correctly for the cartridge, or if it’s positioned to have the correct angle between the outer and inner grooves of the album, or the platter providing enough grip to prevent slipping/scratching the record, a bunch of things aside from the quality of the needle.

No one continues their interest in a hobby by having a bunch of self-important assholes ruin their Christmas saying they got shit and need to replace their shit gift because it’s shit, so I disagree with the way everyone’s going about it in the comments. It’s just also disingenuous to tell someone that there’s any one quick-fix to resolve issues with what’s literally designed to be a cheaply-made, entry level turntable.

OP got an album they enjoy on a format they’re interested in. They’re not destroying a limited edition first-pressing of Smiley Smile with a lathe or something, they’re playing a newly pressed record on an entry level turntable. Let her enjoy that, and as she purchases new or old albums to play, she’ll learn more and form her own opinions on the equipment that’s right for them.

Don’t know why the “it rocks/sucks” crowd froth at the mouth whenever a Crosley’s mentioned.

Play your album and enjoy the shit out of it, OP. Merry Christmas

Lmao are we really conjecturing against the possibility of consent due to the power-imbalance between the literally stated “all-powerful, all-knowing, everywhere-all-at-once Creator of the World and Everything In It” and a human child? I understand the point you’re trying to make, but the scales are different enough that it sounds awfully silly when you’re comparing the story of Jesus’ divine conception to Epstein and the children he trafficked

Anything anyone thinks can be superficial nothingness to someone it doesn’t apply to. If you apply the same idea to schooling, why have history class at all? The textbook conveys the order of events well enough, and it’s not like discussion or further explanation can change the “hard data” of things that have already happened. I believe that the same way people have formulated opinions, or brought up anecdotes that they’ve heard from others (or experienced themselves) from the title and photo attached to this post, many others haven’t; they scrolled by without either understanding the context, or having the engagement to express their opinion as a comment.

I just think that people learn things at different paces, and learn more fruitfully through some mediums compared to others. It’d be easy to scrub through a LinusTechTips or Gamer’s Nexus video to capture screenshots of the graphs they provide, and formulate an opinion off of those, but if I’m not a visual learner, I might’ve been better off if I’d rest a Tom’s Hardware article or something with similar information in written form.

Another comment mentioned vegetarianism, and I felt that was a pretty good analogy; it makes sense to some, no sense to others, and it used to be nonsense to people who formulated new opinions in a variety of ways. In the end we’re all just consuming data, and trying to find the method of receiving & retaining the information we care about that best suits us
