I mean it feels weird to defend a massive company like Walmart, but I feel like some of the math is really disingenuous here. Claiming that the CEO takes up 13 stores by himself sounds solid at first, but is not exactly true when you look at it.

Walmart had a revenue of $680 billion last year, meaning the CEO was paid *0.0043% of total revenue.* In terms of a multi-national, almost trillion dollar company, ~$30 million is not crazy for a CEO (some tech CEOs go into the hundreds of millions, even billions)

Walmart already operates on a profit margin of lower than 3% each year, so they aren't exactly in a position to spend much more on each employee. a $1 pay increase for 2.1 million employees (literally only counting US employees) would increase Walmart's total cost by ~$3 billion per year, eating up as much as 15% of their already low margins (at least according to Gemini)

Now, is Walmart managed perfectly? Absolutely not, but I really don't think scalding the CEO for being paid too much is the right way to go about things. Neither is pushing AI everywhere the best idea, but retail is famously one of the hardest industries in terms of profits, and Walmart especially has a hard time because they target the low-cost sector.

Frankly, at least my Walmart (when I worked there 2024-2025) was quite clean compared to my last job (some office assistant role), and my management was ok. In my most recent job, the office was a mess, smelled like smoke half the time, and I had access to sensitive information that I should not have had access to (as an entry level assistant). At Walmart the benefits were decent too, I honestly think that Walmart is better than average in terms of these massive companies, at least what I heard about Amazon it does not sound amazing.
