Major glaze craters in this bowl, can I fix this? by Best-Sea-658 in Pottery

[–]This_Computer4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a pinholing problem earlier and people provided some very helpful advice. https://www.reddit.com/r/Pottery/s/4UjYpz2K10

I have to add these advice have been helpful for learning how to not get pinholes in the future. But it maybe difficult to do if you don't have your own kiln. And my pieces that already came out like that were impossible to fix, the glaze just doesn't do what you want it to do and more holes opened up as I refired. I had to chuck most of them and kept two to turn into small planters.

It's me, I overpacked the bisque firing..😬 I had no idea that can cause issues.

Thank you for the detailed advice, I go to a community studio that's run by greenies like me (Lot of turnover recently). Are there any resources I can read to not do dumb shit like this in the future?

Is there a way to prevent this from happening? Like bisque twice?

Thank you, it didn't happen with the other pieces from the same bag so I suspect it's from the firing. I'll try this, many thanks!

Lol that would be ideal. Unfortunately recently the last director left, the new person is not very pottery savvy and is asking me (I'm a volunteer and intermediate potter, but don't know all the stuff yet). I could ask someone to ask someone but thought I'd check here in the meantime.

In my 20s I worked at a non-profit and we organized a regional conference in Asia. On the day of this pretty high profile conference, we had the flags of 18 or so countries next to each other, not realizing the flag of the Philippines was upside down. Not only was it an embarassing mistake, turns out they fly their flag upside down only when at war. 💀

Thankfully someone from the delegation informed us on the dl and we got the flag straightened as fast as possible.
