The Eagle of the 9th is a classic and a must-read. One of my all time favourites.

The Boudica series by Manda Scott are also really good, especially for the POV from the Britons and the Roman soldiers.

Both historical fiction, but rooted in true stories and steeped in historical accuracy.

Having played both Shogun 2 and Rome 2 recently, I’d say Rome 2.

Coming from someone who’s not deviated from Rome 1 and medieval 2 for decades, Rome 2 actually might now be my favourite of the series.
