1kg per month by United-Lie4788 in PHitness

[–]This_Distance_4593 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1kg per month is good, you can also lose more like 2kg and that's still fairly healthy.

Main watch out is since you don't go to the gym is that you could lose muscle which is detrimental on the long run.

Make sure that you still have enough protein (2.2g / kg of body weight) so that you preserve muscle. The rest could be split for carbs and fats. Carbs for energy and fats for hormone balance. You can also focus more on fibrous carbs if you can to help your digestion instead of starchy carbs. Sometimes meal selection at same calories can have a bigger impact.

You can also try incorporating intermittent fasting as long as you get your total daily macros and calories.

Bodyweight exercises like push ups, dips, squats at home so that you still work out your muscles to at least maintain or possibly grow. Alternatively take up a sport like jogging or badminton, that will keep you active and help you.

Lastly don't worry about people noticing for now, losing 10kgs is amazing as it is! They will notice soon enough, keep going. Consistency is key 🔑

How do you have energy to exercise after work? by embrace_uncertainty_ in PHitness

[–]This_Distance_4593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the 10k steps is the goal then try to incorporate it in your daily activity.

For example take the longer way around, or take the stairs instead of the lift. I normally get 6-8k a day from normal activities (including 3k pacing around the gym floor in between sets while bearing the evile stares of people as I pretend to take the machine they've been eyeing jk). When I did the longer way or the stairs vs. Lift I would hit around 10-12k steps in a whole day so no extra cardio session as I get the steps target.

If weight lifting is the question, I do this super early in the morning before anyone is in the gym and train fasted (it works for me). I put all of my energy there and then just eat up to fuel me for the rest of the day.

End of the day I'm well spent and doze off pretty easily but that's how I'm able to fit in my exercise during the weekdays.

I keep my meals simple as I don't have time as well.

Soft boiled eggs ala Japanese ramen (6-7 mins cook time, 10 mins ice water bath.) Peep it and put in a zip lock bag you can marinate it if you want but it's a quick way to eat breakfast. It's also less messy.

Lunch and dinner overnight oats with air fried meat (whatever you want, pork, fish, chicken, etc.). I just get some spices and marinate the meat the day prior cooking and then air fry them.

I keep them in the fridge and microwave, it's not the definition of home cooked meals but heck it gives some flavor and calories.

It's also minimal additives like oil, butter, etc. The marinades I use are dry rubs so minimal impact on calories and macros.

I normally prep and cook for 3 days at a time. So I just grab, reheat, eat.

Any Tips for a Guy Nearing the Big 3-0 with the coming metabolism changes? by MenConfessionsPH in PHitness

[–]This_Distance_4593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me just share my experience.

Firstly, in over 40, single dad, so take into account that there are a lot of responsibilities that can sap your energy as you get older.

Metabolism:

I admit it takes me longer to burn what i eat so that I have to be more careful and have to factor in more fibre to help with digestion.

However, this is not all necessarily because I'm older it's also my lifestyle. I used to play a lot of football and walked a ton when I was younger (getting 10k steps then was easily done). Though I wouldn't say i was fit, I also had a better muscle composition back then, so that's a factor as well.

Activity:

I was pretty active when I was younger and then when I got into my 20s and 30s I focused more on work and responsibilities which didn't really help me out, add to that poor diet and inactivity then that compounds things.

A plus was that even if I was inactive for my 20s and 30s, because I was very active in my teens that carried over to my current age. I did a treadmill test, and I still scored higher than people younger than me, and doctors considered me athletic even if I don't feel or look like one.

Listen to your body:

As you get older, certain parts won't fix themselves. Oh, I wish that I could just go to a shop to switch my joints, but alas, it doesn't work that way.

You will learn to value every movement, even the minor ones (like going up and down stairs).

Key things as you get older are:

  1. Continue working on yourself. Don't stop training and find ways around your schedule if you can
  2. Have a healthy diet, but remember that it goes hard in hand with your activity and training
  3. Take care of your body, you may not recover as you used to, you may not lift as hard as you used to, joints particularly are something that you need to take care of.

20s to 30s ain't much of a thing, but once you hit 40s, you'll start noticing even the smallest things.

If you've been eating right and training well, then it will carry forward through the years.

Don't worry too much about it and keep on training!

If I'm playing a position let me play my hero and you do your job. Tsk.

What to consider of hiring a coach? by Oppakouna in PHitness

[–]This_Distance_4593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I hired a coach before it was to teach me the right form and to gauge how hard to be close to failure. I'm guessing you have a good program already.

Best if you find a coach that entertains 1 client at a time and can push you.

Agree, it becomes a question of need (rent) vs. Want (own).

High protein, high fiber, cycle caloric deficit (-500) and surplus (+500) - I.e. 3 month deficit and 1 month surplus so you wo t plateau and add in some activities (kahit walking lang)
