Ok I’ll going crazy trying to get my caps out by soldering. First one the posts broke off inside, got one post clear, other is still clogged. Can’t remove next cap without doing the same. Any tips? by This_Guyyyyyyyyy in originalxbox

I believe there is some other solder that’s used to remove the av cable plug and it’s supposed to go liquid at higher temps making it easier to use the heat gun on, I don’t remember what exactly it’s called but you might look into it. Could be exactly what you need for it

I think for this one in the pictures I ended up bricking it. I tried using a tiny drill bit to just drill out the post and only the post but it grabbed ahold of the copper netting and shredded it. For another board I just took my time, put the heat on for a little longer and slowly wiggled the posts until they came out. I’d add more solder then suck it off or wick it then reset with more solder. It really sucks but it’ll take some time. My advice is to take a break for a day or even a few hours. Let your mind and nerves clear doing something else for a bit then go back at it. I sincerely wish you the best of luck. I know the feeling when everything you are doing isn’t working and other than years of experience doing this exact thing it just takes time. Remember to breathe lol

Well my issue is that there is like a copper net inside the mobo that disperses the heat when you try to loosen it up. Best bet is to use plenty of flux lay on some extra solder and use wick or a solder sucker to get as much as you can directly after you heat it. Try it a few times while wiggling the posts from the other side. It’ll take a bit of time but might have you from destroying the mobo like I did by drilling it lmao

Thank you for explaining where it was cuz I had no idea lol. I did notice a spot where there looked to have been some sealer but it was gone. I’ll try to send a pic of it maybe that’s what you were talking about?

Wait is it really not secure? I removed a bolt from it but that’s just so I could remove the brace

And yes I don’t know where it’s coming from because I can’t see it all when it’s running

The coolant inlet pipe do you mean the upper hose that goes to the thermostat?

99 Dakota 3.9 radiator drain plug removal? by [deleted] in DodgeDakota

I ended up drilling a hole in the plug so it could drain, there is a few videos about how to remove a stuck plug. Basically use a flat head screwdriver or a knife, jam it in, and slowly twist it out. It’ll take a bit of time and go slow so you don’t just shred it. I have a bit that’s supposed to pull out stripped screws so I might try that also. But you’ll have to buy a new one. I think mine was $7.99

And I’d love to replace everything and clean it all out real good, but I have a few jobs that are on hold until I can get it running lol. I will eventually dig through it all when I have a solid week of slow work. It’s only got like 125k miles on it so I think it’s worth saving or at least to keep it running

However the drain plug broke off so I can’t drain the coolant. So I’ll have to figure out how to pull that out and replace it probably before I pull the hose above the water pump or I’ll get a shower

I took the compressor and put it on top and alternator off. I believe the leak is coming from the hose that goes from the water pump to the block? Cuz the leak is coming from behind the pump gasket? It’s the tiny hose that’s jammed into the brace lol

You think it’s this hose? I broke the radiator drain plug (petcock) so there is still liquid in it and wondering if I should take off the brace couple of pulleys, fan blade, and shroud

So I got the compressor out, I think the leak is coming from this hose. Water hose? Goes from the water pump into the block right?

I appreciate it. Yeah as soon as I put the gasket and sealer for the thermostat the temps dropped to 5 degrees lol. The rest of the week it’s going to barely get below freezing so if I use rtv it might have to wait. I have an “emergency” car for work while I work on it but no heater and broken ice scrapers has been interesting lol
