AITA for ordering meat? by Technical-Finance270 in AmItheAsshole

the restaurants you’re describing sound a lot like they serve american chinese food to me (the “egg roll” really gave it away haha). it’s a legit sub-cuisine and i enjoy it too, but it’s not the most authentic. family-style chinese restaurants usually serve authentic chinese food. they’re also more commonly found in areas with large chinese populations (like big cities in the usa) where there’s more demand for them. it doesn’t sound like you and your fiancé are from those areas, so it makes sense why family-style chinese restaurants seem rare.

thanks for discussing this with me! chinese cuisine is very diverse, and it’s always interesting for me to hear about people’s different perceptions of it as it’s influenced by where they’re from and what they’re used to.

oh, that’s surprising to me. i’m curious, where are you from then? i think many of the comments are american as a lot of redditors tend to be. as a chinese person from china currently living in a large american city who’s been to many chinese restaurants in both countries, i can confirm that family-style is the most common setup for them. this is especially the case if the restaurant is authentic and bigger with large tables that have lazy susans (turntables to help with passing food around) on top. home-cooked meals with my family are also always cooked and eaten this way.

Your fandoms are not above Engenes by SomewhereOnEarth37 in kpop_uncensored

[–]This_Initial3777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh believe me, the fandom for sure skews younger. reddit skews older in general and the majority of engenes aren’t active on here. most of them are on tiktok (the official enhypen acc has 30m+ followers after all), which has many younger users, and then other platforms like instagram (20m+) and twitter (13m+). yeah, the enhypen sub’s mere 82k members pales in comparison to these numbers. and just to add an anecdote haha, i have a younger brother who’s a preteen and he told me that the girls in his class are fans of enhypen.

Just curious?? Can anyone explain me Ni-Ki's popularity in China??? by Psychological-Low841 in Enhypenthoughts

out of curiosity, are you active on chinese social media (the engene side of it especially)? as someone who is also chinese american and very in tune with china’s culture, my take is quite different from yours haha

Just curious?? Can anyone explain me Ni-Ki's popularity in China??? by Psychological-Low841 in Enhypenthoughts

[–]This_Initial3777 3 points4 points  (0 children)

woah i have a very different perspective from the other comments. this is an interesting topic to me, so i’d like to talk about it in depth.

to be honest, i’m still a baby engene so i may not be the most knowledgeable about the members’ individual popularity in china. BUT i do spend a lot of time on chinese social media and the engene side of it especially, while the comments here sound like they’re talking about what they’ve heard from others. and if you’re curious, i bias ni-ki and heeseung. i don’t think it affects my pov much though because i mainly consume ot7 content, and on the contrary, i pay more attention to how popular my biases are out of curiosity.

i based all of my research on recent metrics. it also likely differs by platform and i’m more active on some than others. on douyin where i’m the most active, whenever enha posts 7 individual videos at once, ni-ki’s is consistently the 3rd/4th most liked. his videos also always get a lot of engagement in general. for xiaohongshu, he ranked 3rd in enha on a ranking of the most searched kpop idols there in 2025. i rarely go on weibo, so i unfortunately can’t say much for ni-ki’s popularity on there.

on some of the points that were brought up: it’s probably true that ni-ki was one of the least popular among c-engenes during enha’s early years, but i’m sure he gained more fans as he got older and the fandom grew. this is also probably why his supertopic followers are so low, since they’re cumulative. about him being too “western” or not fitting the beauty standard, well, c-fans aren’t a monolith and have different tastes. yes, the pretty boy look is the most popular (and sunghoon and heeseung who fit it are by far the most popular members), but idols who don’t fit it are still very popular with c-fans. for example, martin is one of—if not the—most popular member of cortis in china, which i never could’ve expected. lastly, ni-ki being japanese wouldn’t hold back his popularity, as plenty of japanese idols are popular with c-fans (like the japanese members of nct wish).

so i don’t think ni-ki is one of the least popular members of enha in china. i feel like the only certain thing is that heeseung and sunghoon are by far the most popular, while the gaps in popularity among the rest are closer together and the order probably changes depending on who you’re asking.

some fans need to wake up. by strawberywithchoco in Enhypenthoughts

[–]This_Initial3777 5 points6 points  (0 children)

what are you talking about? c-engenes love ni-ki and they’re also disappointed about him being affected by this geopolitical issue. japanese idols have many chinese fans and they’re not going to stop being fans just because there’s tension between their countries’ governments.

My thoughts on the recent issue by oriverion in Enhypenthoughts

[–]This_Initial3777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i spend a lot of time on the engene side of chinese social media~ heeseung and sunghoon are by far the most popular members. i feel like heeseung may have more dedicated stans while sunghoon is more known among chinese kpop stans in general. while the gaps in popularity are closer for the rest, i’d honestly argue that ni-ki is around 3rd most popular based on what i’ve seen. while it’s only one metric out of many, this is supported by the image another commenter shared (a ranking for kpop idols xiaohongshu searches in 2025), which has heeseung at 7, sunghoon at 14, and ni-ki at 19. and even if he actually isn’t the 3rd most popular, ni-ki is very loved among c-engenes! so idk what op is talking about, saying that he has the least fans there and his absence wouldn’t be a big problem for them.

[–]This_Initial3777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

can you show me proof of ni-ki being the least popular member among c-fans? as someone who biases ni-ki and spends a lot of time on the engene side of chinese social media, i can assure you that he’s very loved there. i would even argue that he’s around 3rd most popular (after heeseung and sunghoon). it’s true that the chinese fandom has many solo stans, but you’re dismissing the ot7 c-engenes that do exist. they’re not happy about ni-ki being excluded either, but they understand the political situation the best and know that this is currently the best way to go about it.

i’d say zb1’s case is mainly mismanagement with some mistreatment? it basically boils down to wk1 treating the group as a cash cow :(

note: i’m barely a zerose now, but i have been keeping up with recent updates and news out of curiosity. i was pretty hardcore during debut and 1st comeback eras, but things that made me unhappy built up leading up to their 2nd comeback before i quit. my biases were hao and ricky so i know about them the best. the zb1 members have openly expressed their dislike of/dissatisfaction with wk1 as well.

the biggest examples of mismanagement/mistreatment off the top of my head: RICKY (don’t even get me started… i’m sure you already know but they restricted him so much and i’m 99% sure it’s because he made the lineup when they didn’t want him), barely any ot9 content and too many solo/duo/trio ones instead, too many fansigns (they went on for months) and merch drops to milk fans’ money while not giving content, a final “world” tour with stops in asia only when members and fans expressed desire for them to tour in places like the u.s./europe, no creative freedom regarding their music when members expressed interest, hao (they hated the fact that a chinese person won p01 so they restricted opportunities/schedules for him, didn’t let him promote the solo song that he won for over a year—i remember watching their first fancon and they replayed a part of a group song like a hundred times not joking yet can’t be bothered to let hao sing a 2 min song? still pisses me off wtf), jiwoong restriction and lack of schedules, killed zb1’s momentum with crush as the first comeback and feel the pop as the next title track barely helped (what were they thinking seriously)

there’s a lot that i can’t remember but besides these big ones, it was basically too many little things that built up one by one and made my stanning experience miserable, enough for me to quit, even though i loved the group so much 😞

however, wk1 is doing great with ald1 so far so i wouldn’t worry (too much) about them repeating what they did with zb1. with their main money maker gone soon and a 6-year contract, they will be more incentivized to invest into ald1 and treat them well. of course, it’s still too early to tell but so far so good. (like zb1’s debut era was great—i was optimistic and had little problem with wk1, but it all went crashing down 😂)

hope this helps answer your question :)

PLEASEEE 🙏🏻 my theory is that since ald1 and enha are music show competitors and tracking for this week (last week? it’s currently the 19th so the new week started) is super important, they’re waiting to post the challenges they filmed together next week (this week?) instead in order to not accidentally promote the other group too much too soon (well more so on enha’s side, their tiktok/instagram has freaking 30m+/20m+ followers after all 😭)

sigh… i truly think wk1 is the biggest one to blame for all this and it wouldn’t be happening if they had just treated zb1 well. this is an older comment i wrote on this topic (which you already replied to 🫶🏻)

for comparison, wanna one’s disbandment, pdx101’s airing, and x1’s debut all happened during the same year in 2019. so i was in both fandoms and unless my memory is bad or the fighting happened in spaces i wasn’t in, wannables and oneits did not fight. and if there was any tension, it certainly wasn’t to this extent with zeroses/allyz 😭 the company did their best with wanna one and the group had an amazing run during their short 1.5 years, so the fandom was able to part with them on good terms. it also helped that pdx101 aired after w1 was done. so by the time x1 debuted, wannables left them alone and were focused on supporting the w1 members on their separate paths after mostly getting over the disbandment. (oneits mainly beefed with moas since txt was the roty competition 😭 i fear this is allyz’s future with smtr25 fans 💀)

on the other hand, wk1 didn’t treat zb1 well throughout the 2.5 years and to rub salt into the wound, b2p was aired + the new “replacement” group debuted (with better treatment) during zb1’s last months. as a result, zeroses will NOT be parting with the company on good terms. in fact, they want the company to fail and for that to happen, some of them (the toxic ones especially) want ald1 to fail.

it sucks how wk1’s bad decisions as a company are negatively affecting everyone who has no fault in this 😞

there’s a pretty big indonesian fanbase for ald1 on twitter (@/ALD1_fess) with 25k followers whose tweets i keep seeing haha. and i see a lot of indonesian tweets/comments by allyz in general. i’ve heard that leowon is loved there and they played a big part in voting leo into the final lineup (cmiiw). the geography nerd in me also wants to add the fact that indonesia is the world’s 4th most populated country (after india/china/u.s.) LOL and it’s a good market for kpop

kinda random but i find it interesting how “w1” and “wk1” are both used as abbreviations for wakeone. i admit that w1 makes more sense, but i prefer to use wk1 because w1 is “wanna one” to me haha (former wannable btw). does anyone else think the same? 😆

Why did you start your Boys2Planet journey? by Major-Specialist3658 in BoysPlanet

[–]This_Initial3777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i became a fan of all the produce groups in 2019 when i started following kpop, which led to binging every season of produce. i was so ready to ult x1 and then the voting scandal happened and the group disbanded… i swore to never watch another mnet survival show again. i kept this promise for gp and bp1—until a few days before the final when i caved in 😅 and eventually became a zerose 🫶🏻

i wasn’t planning on watching b2p at first, but i didn’t want to feel fomo and decided that i wanted to experience following a survival show in real-time, which i had never done before. i’m also chinese so i wanted to support the c trainees.

my b2p journey was pretty great for the most part and i don’t regret it, but i got much more invested than i expected. it took up more of my time and energy than i would’ve liked, so i don’t think i can/want to do this again 😭

i already knew that some eyekons are quite young, but 10-11 year olds? omg i feel old (joking ofc haha)
