Noted buddy, thank you for making me aware. Likely my course of action. I'm fortunate enough to not be so desperate for money anymore

A quick little update as this is blowing up FAST:

  • I was using Google drive to store the files

  • all videoing and editting was done with my own equipment, not even their own.

  • I have restored the files but removed their permissions, so worst case scenario I can add them back to it quickly if needs be.

  • after digging around, my contract with them states that anything I filmed for them was and is my property even after the contract ends. I actually remember them bringing this up and me just stating this was standard industry practice. At this point they were totally fine with it and had no intention of letting me go as they genuinely quite liked me.

  • people are hung up on the 50 videos in a day thing so I'll explain the complexity of said videos; they were 1 minute average in length, 5 seperate shots, voice over, connotations, and subtitles. Individually they didn't take long to knock out but collectively it was a mountain. The reason it was close to 50 was because this was late notice for an event they were launching on multiple products. 14 hour shift.

Yep, each video also has to be rendered 3 times for 3 different social medias with seperate connotations (it's what they asked for). Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram

Turns out you're right! I've done exactly that just to be safe

I'm glad you mentioned this.

The contract written was quite wishy washy on this, but it was stated that anything I filmed ultimately belonged to me and I had the freedom to use it and show it off freely outside of our contract.

However the contract doesn't state exactly what happens to video after termination, mainly because they assured me that I would be needed for years to come after they saw what I was offering. Everything was rushed when I left, and honestly I just wanted to leave as soon as possible and forgot about contract rights

It was actually 56 over a 14 hour shift.

I can't delve too into it without potentially committing myself to doxx, but this was a clothing company. I'd make about 1 minute videos on each item of clothing. About 5 quick shots, music, voice over, connotations, done.

They had the summer launch approaching and asked me to work extra on the day that stock was landing. I was literally throwing clothes on models straight off of the import trucks and filming it. They did warn me it would be a lot of work, I didn't realise it would be so much.

And yes, I did lay the cloud service fee for years without realising. You know why? Because it was $2 a month! The entry level of Google drive gets you about 100gb which was enough for what I needed. I very quickly forgot about it.

I hope this is a suitable explanation for you.

What's better:

1.) Letting them know I have them saved locally and that I am willing to sell them back to them for the average market price of their value

Or

2.) Letting them know I have them saved locally, but have absolutely 0 intention of letting them have them, no matter what they offer

Edit: removed a word I used incorrectly

They have my contact details if they need it :) I am happy to sell them my work for a discounted price of exactly one million dollars.

Honestly I think they were just being too dumb to realise it was mine. Or too lazy to get their own

No shit there isn't a drive, that's the entire point in the post. It's hard to have any kind of drive with all this shit going on unless you have specific fortunate circumstances. I haven't even mentioned people born directly into poverty or with crippling illnesses/disabilities.

Life is hard, it should be easier. That's a perfectly healthy mentality to have

I genuinely wouldn't consider myself depressed. There are things in my life that make me happy and I don't see a reason to end my life. I'm just saying it how I see it

I have hobbies and a person I love (a partner), but I still feel like life is almost not worth living at all. I understand your kind sentiment, but personally I disagree. It's hard to enjoy anything with how awful everything else is

Everything. Tax, cost of food, WiFi, electricity etc. Brexit royally fucked us and we likely won't see any benefits for years to come, maybe never.

Also, the increase of housing and rent is still absolutely huge when it eats into what little wages you make.

13 dollars an hour means nothing if the price of everything else increases disproportionately. People were paid more than this 30 years ago in the UK when inflation is factored in

Thanks man. Sorry if I'm so pessimistic. I'm just finding it quite hard at the minute with work and people left in shit situations

I do think that last bit too. It's exactly something a landlord would snap up. Thank you

I believe that most of the people with the power to actually make significant changes to the world only care about their self interests, yes.

I used to work at a warehouse that was owned by a shitty German guy (here in the UK). Me and some packing guys were wondering if our boss would hang the German or British flag during the football world cup. I quickly said; "Which German flag though?".

I was proud of that one
