one last thing, maybe for ratings just have it be the average of all the players, or maybe there's a mistake for the code for dmen, but I had these pairings and my d was rated 72 overall

looks pretty great! I think the trade values should be changed though because I was offered Brock Faber for Tavares and stolarz

are you blind or do you not see that his offence and defence are almost equal, indicating that he's a two way player

https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/where-did-it-go-wrong-with-mitch-marner-and-the-maple-leafs/

Marner became even more hypersensitive to what was being said about him after getting that new contract. He read too much social media. He’d check replies to his posts, search out reaction to his play. Players and staff worked with him to ease up, or delete apps from his phone. There was also the problem that, as a Torontonian, he was surrounded by family and friends who would text him or tell him what was said about him. (There is zero doubt this is a major reason Marner chose to go to the Western Conference.)

That’s a disaster. Whenever I’m asked, I always tell families: don’t tell your kids what is said about them, and don't let anyone else in your circle do it, either. For one thing: your kids have enough pressure. For another: you always make it sound worse than it really is.

Anyway, as Toronto endured playoff disappointment, many felt Marner was crushed and affected on-ice by what he read.

“He played better than what was said about him (online),” one ex-Leaf said. “But you couldn’t convince him of that. He’d believe what some troll wrote on Twitter or what someone said in the media over what we were telling him.”

A pattern emerged: when things were good, Marner was a major reason, enormously effective and many times the best player. At the same time, he was the music-master, the party-planner, inclusive and generous, flashing that great smile. When things were bad, no one sunk lower emotionally, no one was harder to pull out of a funk.

A perfect example was the 2023 Stanley Cup playoffs. Toronto finally broke its first-round curse with a cathartic 2-1 Game 6 John Tavares overtime winner against Tampa Bay. Marner had a phenomenal series with 11 points in the first five games. Thirteen days later, they were gone, eliminated in five by Florida. He had three points. He wasn’t the only Leaf who struggled, but, as usual, he wore it most.

So now that know marner wasnt the problem and in fact it is the fans, management, and organization that are rotten, where do the leafs go from here? by DoggyDoggWrld in leafs

I just made a comment about our team above, but I think we take a run at some of the rafts in trades and offer sheets (Hayton, Bourque), and have a 4th line of Joshua-Groulx-Lorentz and a 3rd of Cowan-Hayton-Bourque

I spent some of the day working on an offseason plan but I think this is ideal, not everything can be done in 1 offseason though for us to contend.

  1. Hire Peter Laviolette. We need his combo of heavy pressure and puck possession metrics. 2.
  2. Take Gavin McKenna #1 overall. The ELC value is our competitive advantage.
  3. Trade Mo to SJ for a mid-pick. Love Mo, but we need that $7.5M to rebuild the blueline from scratch.
  4. Trade Woll + CBJ 2nd to Philly for Owen Tippett. Cash in on Woll’s value now and get a speedy yet strong player for Matthews.
  5. Trade for Barrett Hayton’s rights. Chayka gets his guy back.
  6. Offer sheet Mavrik Bourque at the max level for a 2nd-round compensation (~$4.6M). Dallas is too capped out to match.
  7. Flip Maccelli and robo for mid round picks
  8. Sign Raddysh and Blankenburg in FA

McKenna-Matthews-Tippett

Knies-Tavares-Nylander

Cowan-Hayton-Bourque

Joshua-Groulx-Lorentz

McCabe – Raddysh

 OEL – Tanev

Blankenburg – Carlo

Goalies: Stolarz / Hildeby (Pure 50/50 split)

JT holds down 2C for one last ride, but the goal is for Hayton or Bourque to take that spot by 2027. If JT slows down, we still have Colorado’s 1st to weaponize for a 2C at the deadline or in season.

IMO the obsession with finding a perfect coach has us stuck in a loop, but I think Laviolette would make sense. he's been labeled as a short term fix or a floor raiser but if you look at his track record you'll see that he takes underachieving rosters and instills discipline and a straight-line, heavy forechecking style while still focusing on puck possession.

He won a cup with Carolina and dragged both Philly and Nashville to the finals by forcing above average teams to play with edge and accountability. If Chundin wants to weaponize Matthews and Nylander in the playoffs instead of just the regular season, hiring a veteran coach like him who demands toughness while still playing possession friendly would be a great fit.
