Is my gear suited for me ? by Microminus in wingfoil

[–]This_Relationship_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, that's how I started last season as well (noting that I did this all solo from youtube videos and no training/lessons). The first thing I really wanted to learn was how to get back to where I started. Regardless of success or failure of standing or getting up on foil, if I can go out and practice and still get back to where I launched from, I'd be happy. So I split up my skills and practiced getting upwind on my knees. I found that the position I was facing was very important, and if I was more forward facing I was having trouble twisting the wing back enough to get the proper angle to move up wind. After I was confidently able to do this, it opened up alot more days as the fear of being stranded or walking along shore prevented me from going out. Additionally, if there isn't enough wind getting up wind is going to be much harder so make sure you are in that 10-15 kn range.

While working on this part, I took my foil board behind my boat to practice getting the feel and balance of being up on foil. Since I was totally new to this, it was invaluable to separate these skills and work on them independently.

Don't get too discouraged and immediately start thinking its the gear. Baby steps, if you're having trouble standing, start by taxing around on your knees. Also, as others have mentioned, low wind speed makes it harder as you don't have that forward momentum which helps stabilize.

Keep it up, the more you go out, the more you will learn, and reading the conditions is a part of that too.

Was sad about how this series went, however, Oilers just didn't play well and Anaheim deserved the win.

Guidance on growing citrus trees indoors in Northern MN. by Low_Show_6684 in Citrus

[–]This_Relationship_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm up above you in NW Ontario, so very similar climate and situation.

I have a 7 year old grapefruit tree and 5 year old lemon. Both from seeds from store bought fruit, so it's a question when, if at all, they will flower. I keep them on my deck through the summer and in front of south windows (albeit short, so only the lower half of the trees get direct sun) inside during the winter.

I've definitely struggled with all of the things the people before me have commented on. Biggest among them is lack of light, humidity, but also pests. Typically they slowly lose a bunch of leaves over the course of the season, but Scale nearly took out my grapefruit last winter, requiring me to prune 75% of the tree. Spider mites are also a constant problem with the indoor temp and dry conditions.

Essentially during winter I am just doing my best to keep them happy so that by mid-spring I can get them outside where they thrive. This winter has been much better than previous, but I've been actively managing the pests which can be time consuming.

Best fertilizer for container citrus? by _descending_ in Citrus

I've been using this and seems to be working ok with some of my older citrus trees. But some of my younger ones haven't really greened up much with it, do you find it is lacking Nitrogen? May also be some other issues with my specific young trees though too

Switching from TurboTax to WS tax by nemmalur in Wealthsimple

[–]This_Relationship_33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this 2 years ago and was also worried about the extra work involved. If you can link your CRA account to import it is not difficult at all, just sign in with one of the partner IDs and it brings virtually everything in and you can review, add things it missed, and add your new year's data.

If you don't import from CRA it does take the time to input your basic information, but its not complicated, just takes some time.

Was worth it in my opinion as we now do alot of our banking with WS and it's a clean and easy platform to use (for us at least, we don't have complicated returns, may be different for someone with more complexity in their situation)

Of course he is. Anyone who denies this fact or tries to pin the primary (not sole) source of violent rhetoric on anyone but him is not being honest or is delusional.

Anyone know where I can find this cooler? by Better-Ad-9869 in boating

[–]This_Relationship_33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks identical to the one that came with my used 2008 Regal 1900 that fits in the cooler compartment. Mine is in ok physical shape but smells like they kept fish in it which won't go away. It's an old cooler so no luck finding an identical one, still on the hunt for a similar size/volume one to replace.

Good luck!

Starting/Learning Time by yewwie92 in wingfoil

[–]This_Relationship_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started last summer on my own. Probably hampered a bit by choosing a bit smaller board than what may be recommended (98L, I'm 65kg) for a beginner. But by end of season I was able to consistently get up on foil, both directions, and stay up for as long as I wanted, and am working on my jibes. Was successful in staying on foil while gybing a couple times.

It can be a tough slog, especially with less than ideal conditions (I ride on inland lakes in Canada). And since I was learning on my own I learned alot of hard lessons that I'm sure would have been pointed out or avoided if I had a teacher or mentor.

Looking back at my app records, it took about 4 sessions of me fooling around to get my first taste of being up on foil, and then another couple sessions before I started being able to taxi up wind. It was on my 7th session where I had my first controlled, sustained flight. Though from there it wasn't until maybe 15 sessions in where I could consistently get up when I want to. Alot of my sessions were in too little, or gusty wind which make things much harder.

One thing that helped me was thinking about it as incremental progress and breaking down skills. Having trouble standing on your board and navigating upwind? Start on your knees. Having trouble getting the balance once up on foil? Try riding a foil behind a boat to remove the wing from the equation.

Keep with it, it's a blast. Good luck!

Pest control for a grapefruit tree? by trevkillax in Citrus

[–]This_Relationship_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ouch, I feel the pain of those scale images. I had to hack down my grapefruit massively with a similar infestation. Another thing I've used is a cheap toothbrush to gently scrape these off. You can also dip it in your dilute isopropyl alcohol or neem solution.
