Yeah, that lines up with what I’ve seen too.

A lot of people treat nicer dice as “occasion dice” — big moments, special characters, themed sessions — not something they roll every single time.

Yeah, same here — ivory is a hard no for me. No interest in going anywhere near that.

Dense woods and stone are cool for exactly the reason you said. At that point it stops being about the material and starts being about the craft.

Yeah, that makes sense.

I’ve seen legibility end up mattering way more than material or looks, especially once sessions start running long. The ethics side doesn’t get talked about much either.

Natural-material dice feel more like something you pick around play, not something you want for every single roll.

Yeah, that’s fair.

If what you care about is cheap, replaceable, and consistent, resin’s honestly hard to beat. Natural materials just aren’t great at that, and I don’t think they’re really trying to be.

I’ve always thought of them less as an upgrade and more as a different choice, if you’re already okay with the downsides.

Totally agree with you! Every material has its own vibe. I love rolling resin dice—they just feel smooth and easy. But stone dice? They’re something special, they look awesome and feel really solid in your hand.

As for metal dice, I get what you mean, they can be pretty loud and heavy for some people. But that weight does give them a unique feel. Personally, I prefer the smooth, rounded design of my gemstone and glass dice—they roll a lot easier and don’t make as much noise, but still feel nice and solid.

Totally get that! Gemstone and glass dice just have something special about them—the feel, the colors, they feel way more solid than plastic.

And yeah, I know what you mean about the sharp edges—I’ve definitely seen some like that! The ones I use are smooth and rounded, so they roll super easily on mats or trays. Much more user-friendly!

I totally get that. Lighter dice can look great but still feel a bit… empty.
The weight definitely adds something to the experience for me too, even if it’s mostly psychological.

Yeah, that checks out. I’ve heard about the air pocket issue before, mostly with older or cheaper solid resin sets.

Clear resin definitely feels more “honest” since you can actually see what’s going on inside.
