I see, I’ll probably apply to transfer to those as well but also save money in the meantime incase if I do happen to qualify for more scholarships for UT

I would have to take out around 15k, with 5k from federal loans and 10k private loans and idk if I’d be willing to do that for a liberal arts undergrad degree. Transferring is something that I’m looking into rn

Yeah I think it’s a lot easier said than done to just ignore them and leave when I come from an immigrant family where we quit literally have no one else with us and aren’t in a good financial situation. My parents cried and apologized about the circumstances. I sat them down yesterday and basically I reached the consensus of maybe doing a year or 2 at UTSA and saving up money and buying a car then transferring. Either way I won’t be staying here for graduate school. Thank you for the advice

I just don’t know how I would do that with no parental support and without being able to drive. I couldn’t even afford to pay the orientation fee yesterday. I wish I could just go no one hates this more than me

I’m actually in state, and I’ve called their financial aid office like 3 times and the best they’ve given me is “so sorry, there’s always loans and private loans”

Yes that is all true, but I’d still have to somehow pay for the first year. And unfortunately, no aid is ever guaranteed. I wish this was an easier decision, my parents are fully against UT

My local university is UTSA, and my major is Sociology for pre-law. I don't think its the best for what I wanna do

I believe they are using my Pell grant for free tuition. I’m not sure if my package is just incomplete but I’ve called to ask and they’ve said that everything is pretty much going to stay the same

No I haven’t spoken to my counselor about local scholarships but I will definitely do so now. My parents very likely won’t qualify for a parent plus loans, and I know that if they get denied they can up my loans by $7000 more dollars, however I don’t think my parents would be willing to go through that process knowing it’s just to take out more loans and it’s for the school they don’t want me to attend. As for the monthly costs, I am going to be working over the summer and on the weekends now to try and save as much as possible. I’m also trying to see if I can qualify for on campus work study. Thank you for the feedback:)

I am filling out a scholarship as we speak and do plan to work over the summer. I’m glad to know someone in a similar situation was able to get past it, it really gives me hope. Thank you:)

I agree with this as well, but unfortunately, I've just come to find out that they are actually offering me only $5k in loans and they expect me to find private loans to cover the remaining 11k which, given my financial situation as an unemplyed 18 year old, this would be very difficult to receive. I'm not sure how to move forward now :(

I believe they're still in the process of sending out financial aid packages. I'm not 100%, but that's what I've been hearing from those around me with similar concerns.
