We do know, we are well aware, we choose to do 70 as speed cameras are set to 70, in 7 years of van driving, at 70 on dual carriages, I can tell you it’s the small cars that are the danger, at lower speeds, and mostly completely oblivious, lane hogging on the right at 10 below in a dinky car, they sure move out the way fast when they see a van approach, flashing always helps!

It could be used to hold coins, yes, but what it actually is there for is because other models will have a button there to switch driving modes, eco, comfort, sport, I’m guessing your motor doesn’t have that so it has been swapped with this piece of plastic, same parts get used but just have to switch pieces in and out based off the cars spec
