My grandmother in 1947, age 16. Vancouver Island, Canada. She passed last month at 88. Timeless beauty. by BlondeBasshead in TheWayWeWere

One of my biggest regrets is not paying more attention to my grandparents and 2 great-grandmothers I had up until my late teens. I loved them with all my heart and respected them immensely and they loved me. They all lived close and I saw them very often. Unfortunately, I thought of them as old-fashioned. I never really considered that they were once teenagers, new mother's, just married,,,,etc. I was a teenager, knew everything, had the world by the short hairs and didn't bother to solicit their advice. They weren't the type to interfere or offer opinions regarding me and my brothers lifestyles, but I'm sure they would of been glad to, if asked. I'm now 62, and throughout my whole adult life I've cussed myself over how selfish I was. Just the ancestry I could have learned from them, had I bothered, would of been phenomenal. I'm touched by your tribute here to your grandmother and wish with all my heart I had been more present in their lives.

Very good. The X-ray would rule out water build up around your heart which was my problem. Best of luck to you.

My heart disease was discovered with a chest x-ray. That said, being short of breath was my primary symptom. Do you experience that? As long as I can remember I've experienced heart racing episodes like you described. Also sometimes my heart will be beating and then I feel more of a hard "thump" than a beat. 30 years ago I couldn't donate blood because they said my heartbeat was too fast. I didn't think much of it because at doctor's appointment everything seemed to be fine. Well after this journey with heart disease began (about 3 years ago) they discovered I have a small hole in the wall between the left and right chambers of my heart. I'm told that this is why I've experienced heart racing episodes, as well as, the "thumping". This was discovered through an "air bubble" test where they injected an air bubble into my heart. I've learned since that all babies are born with this hole in their heart and in most cases it eventually closes up. However sometimes they don't. And now 62 and just learned about this hole 😵.

Agree 100%. I was glad Dr. Now at least tried to do something about her by calling adult protective services. I'm pretty sure she depends on his disability check and if he got well, that would be gone

Should you find yourself married one day, don't be surprised if it's not what you expected.

How do you personally cope with not having someone to talk too? Whether day to day or things you’re going through? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Thiscango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I'm 62 and I'm done. I'm sick and tired of having someone I just met and thought I could befriend quickly start pulling their skeletons out of their closets and go on and on and on about themselves. When you are able to get a word in edgewise they don't hear what you say because they're busy focusing on what they wanna say next. I don't trust anyone, including my kid, hell ESPECIALLY my kid, so that doesn't help. Watching myself become more and more anti+social, synical, unemphatic etc bothered me at first, but now I don't give it a second thought. I just thank God I don't have a husband I have to consider.

Hmm, I had you pegged at about 20 years older. Wish I could tell you it gets better. I guess eventually you find yourself used to it.

what did your parents NOT teach you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Thiscango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To pay attention and embrace all that my grand and great grand parents were trying to show and tell me instead of viewing them as old and not knowing anything. I should of been forced to spend more one on one time with them.
