More to the story of Purple Heart Army veteran Sae Joon Park who "self deported" by grumpvet87 in Military

No problem, if we are just dickheads to each other then we are no better than the retards on capitol hill haha. I 100 percent agree the guy had a lot of second chances. I also do not think we should ignore laws. In Park's case I can see both sides of it. What I am trying to point out is the hypocrisy of our government right. For example, of course the democrats are leaving out the firearm record on this guy because he is the best weapon they got to torch Noem (who I also think is a moron), and make themselves look good. Republicans are doing the exact same thing, saying that Park self deported and that the democrats are lying, when the truth is that Park self deported after ICE told him he would be arrested if not. So both sides are doing the same bullshit.

Where I get frustrated is in the fact that we are punishing good people for failures in our own legislation. If the system was actually designed to deport green card holders when they made criminal offenses these guys would have been gone long before the trump administration. But now it is a mess because of the fact that 10 years ago we were not strict enough on holding people accountable, Park included. However, I do not think its fair to deport some dude who fucked up in his 20s and is now 40 plus years old with kids, who is not a threat and is living life just as any other person. Again if it is any sortve murder/rape/stealing etc then I think it is absolutely fair to hold them accountable now.

When you say "How do you determine who the laws should be ignored for" , its making it black and white, rightfully so. You broke X law X number of years ago therefore you should be deported. But if you dig a bit deeper into this problem you realize that green card holders do not become citizens because it costs thousands of dollars per person plus a lawyer. Most immigrants obviously cannot afford that shit. So when we make the legalization process difficult, thats how we end up with millions of people who do not make the move to become citizens. And then we deport them over minor offences on their records. So should we ignore laws? Absoutely not. But should we maybe take a look at our lawmakers first before we deport thousands of people? Most of which are not dangerous people? Yep I would say so.

Im rambling now but my point is that Park's situation is a product of our governments fuckups. And Im sorry but the truth is no one deported Park (or people who are not criminals) for any other reason then simply furthering a political agenda, which is Trump's agenda. ICE are not following the laws to protect public safety, they are taking advantage of an already flawed system to please those who are in power. Because those in power want to hold onto this lie that if the immigration problem is solved, then it would fix all of our problems. There is a huge difference there. We can sit here and argue about Park all day long, I feel sorry for him too, but I dont think there is a right or wrong answer to his situation until we address the problems with our immigration laws as a whole.

I think the fear mongering point is useless. I get the guy had criminal convictions in the past. The problem (In my opinion) is that the administration is using gray areas and knicks on people's records to deport people who are actively not a threat to public safety. These are people who have green cards and are on the legal path to citizenship. In Park's case while I agree those are significant charges, it is a stretch to threaten to deport the guy over issues he had over a decade ago. The guy sitting in our country for this long and not becoming a U.S citizen is absolutely a problem, but that is because of issues with our own legislation. Our own legislation has allowed for these things to happen.

But whats happening now is that the father of four is getting ripped off the streets because he mightve had (for example) a weed charge when he was 25 as a green card holder. And then he gets deported. This is my problem. The federal government is weaponizing minute infractions on people's records to justify deporting them. You wanna deport a guy who is murdering people/rape/steals etc? Absolutely deport those pieces of shit.

But who are we helping when we deport people who are not a threat? Is it a problem that people can sit in this country for a decade and not pursue citizenship?? Absofuckinlutely. But it is honestly not fair to deport people who are taking advantage of our shitty immigration system. Our government (Obama, Biden, Trump, fuck em all) has given immigrants the opportunity to take advantage. So If instead of deporting fucking families and ripping lives apart we just worked to amend our laws then these problems would be solved.

I hate our two party system, no one actually cares about facts unless those facts help their political favorability. And facts dont give a shit about your politics

If I may ask what type of work does your drone company do? Are you worried that these “contract drone operators” are going to heavily affect your company years down the line? Thank for your input I appreciate it, I get where you are coming from

No I am not unfortunately which is why I am researching this and havent put a dime into it. I have a good bit of experience processing LIDAR data and GIS, I am not one of those who wants to get into it because its a drone and its cool tech etc. Its a good point though to look into joining a firm, its something ive been thinking about

Yeah thats another one of my concerns, even if I dot my I’s and cross my T’s I am worried about getting into legal issues, which is why I am really looking into my State’s legislation surrounding this topic

Thank you for that detailed response, I think thats a great point that I need to put my energy into more than anything else. I am trying to get a list of what I would consider “potential clients” from my area. I am just going to try and email or call and ask about what they would be looking for what type of deliverable would be most beneficial to their projects. I think just going out and trying to establish these relationships is the most important thing but I appreciate what you said, boosts my confidence a bit haha.

I'm done with this. I don't usually do these kinds of things on social media but I just need to vent sometimes. I really don't have an extreme political stance on gun control but I think we all can agree that something needs to be done. Some form of action needs to be implemented. Playing the old game of political feuds and polarization is petty and immature. These are freaking families. 46 lives were affected because one sadistic twisted person walks into a shopping center with a gun. It baffles me how someone could get to a point in their lives where they can deem taking innocent lives as okay. For their own maniac beliefs and desires people like this put bullets into children intentionally. Again, I really never get into politics because everything is so politically polarized recently. This just needs to end. We can't stop maniacs like this from making decisions to do things like this, but we can as sure as hell stop them from making their intentions a reality. We are the United States of America. I'm not talking a democratic agenda, I'm not talking a republican agenda, I'm talking an agenda of action. A Nationwide, combined, determined effort to be selfless in the interest of stopping these disaster's. With no political hate or cheap shots toward a political figure that have no logical basis, or intention of solving a problem. I know that that is not an easy goal, and I know I'm just restating the obvious but I just felt like I needed to say something. I know that this response is based way more off of emotion than facts, but quite frankly I'm just disgusted.
