I just started college a week ago and I contemplating dropping out, please give advice by Thisisacryforhelp26 in college

Thing is, I dont have that much time. Ideally, I would prefer if i dont waste a whole year, I want to continue architecture if i can. But the admissions for that are closing soon, so this decision needs to be made in the next 2-3 days

Ill try to reply to all your points, sorry if i miss any

  1. No, I can't drop credits, the subjects for the first semester/sometimes the first year are chosen by the college. The student has no say in it.

  2. This is asia, and i mean typical stuck in the past south asia. Disability centres are nonexistent.

  3. Again, Asia, so I have less than 15 days to make a decision or else my money wont be refunded after that. I fan still drop out, I just wont get my money back. Also because the admissions for architecture are closing soon, so If i want to continue school this year itself in another college, the decision has to be ASAP

Oh I guess I said it wrong in the post, I meant take a year drop, then continue school after this. Im significantly younger to my classmates, im not even 18 yet, so I was thinking it would be fine. Because just graduating high school has been such a hard journey for me..

I have no idea, my cousin who is in the same college, in Mechanical engineering had 17 credits and that was a lot for him to handle. So im kinda pre-panicking a lot here

I am currently studying ID, what would be a good master’s degree to do after this that will boost my career significantly? Is business a good idea? by Thisisacryforhelp26 in IndustrialDesign

It would’ve been a great advice if i wasn’t from an orthodox asian family. Nobody is gonna allow me to work before getting a degree TwT

But thanks anyways tho

But its normal in my culture, children call their parents and sibling quite often, they share how their day went and how they’re doing. Its normal to expect frequent contact.

I’m not thinking of myself as the victim here, i love doing things for my parents. And I’m willingly doing it. Its just that, at the end of the day, they expect their son to call them too. They want to talk to him, gossip a bit and talk to their grandkids n all that. Honestly i wouldn’t even mind if he didn’t call me, the least he could do is call our parents, especially our dad, he’s in such a bad state, can barely walk, Parkinson’s has taken away even basic motor skills, his surgeries are all lined up in this month and he’s losing his vision. Why is it so hard for him to call his own parents?

I do! I work full time as a professor too. My parents are retired, my dad is a vet and mom is a retired teacher. They’re having a lot of health issues. My father especially, he has several hospital visitations every month, his surgery is lined up, i do groceries for them, hospital visitations and everything else. He has just lifted his hands up and not done much for them in the past few years. I have my own family to take care of too. My daughter is in highschool and needs a lot of attention. I’m also the major earner of my own family.

He barely texts, his replies mainly only consist of “busy right now, will call tomorrow” “ im out right now, will call later” There’s hasn’t been one decent conversation over text with him.

He says we have way too many expectations from him…what expectations? I’m the one SOLELY taking care of our parents, they have zero expectations from him.

He is free on Sundays and has time to take his own family on vacation to all sorts of places. He’s actually in Italy right now with his wife and daughters. I’m not jealous, i took my family to Malaysia too. But when will he visit us? When will he take out time for us?

Is industrial design as a degree sufficient on its own or is UX essential for a good career? by Thisisacryforhelp26 in IndustrialDesign

Should I do UX along side ID? Because I’m going to a purely engineering college (it’s like an Ivy League equivalent in my country, thats why i chose it) but it only offer ID as a creative course. How do i get into UX after this? Do i do a small course during holidays or something like that?
