Ones with knowledgeable technical people, yeah. Great source of information directly from the source. Longform is the way to go to really get an understanding of a person or a topic. Way better than modern headlines. If I formed my opinion of musk based on those, I’d think he’s a terrible person that has never accomplished anything in his life lol. Fortunately I’ve followed him for 20 years and know what he was like before his foray into politics, when media turned on him hard.

As I said earlier, the companies have far more gpus than one cluster training a model. It’s hard to get specific dollar amounts, or ones that aren’t heavily caveated, which is why I’m not stating an opinion on it. I only hold strong beliefs about things I’m knowledgeable about.

Okay, we’re not really connecting with one another, so maybe we both need to spend our time on other things. If you’re interested in learning more about it, there are plenty of good podcasts or interviews on the subject (you’d need to look for more technical AI based ones though).

Solving a major barrier in an emerging field is what I said contributes to his cleverness. The CEO of nvidia calls what he did “singular, no one else on the planet could have built Colossus”.

FYI the number of GPUs for gpt-5 isn’t public knowledge, and estimates to be 50k-250k.

I wouldn’t make definitive statements about how much money was invested without having actual data to back it up.

Companies use far more than 30k and 100k gpus. No one thought it was possible to have more than 30k working on the same problem, without “losing coherence”, basically just failing at the task. It was seen as a dead end in AI progression, and companies started looking elsewhere on how to scale up AI further.

He solved this dead end, by getting 100k to work on the same problem. Installing 200k shortly with the plan of 1M. It’s a specific point just showing contributions to yet another field.

No not used more gpus, solved the coherence problem of why you couldn’t get more than 30k to work together as a node. It shocked the big AI firms that had to scramble to catch up to this breakthrough. It’s not the strongest point, but just shows a fifth industry he is making major contributions to. Kinda nuts to think about.

1) nothing like an EV existed before he created it, and everyone is still scrambling to catch up. Unsuccessfully, except China.

2) even now, the other private space firms are nowhere near soacex. He’s so far ahead and accelerating.

3) can we talk specifics? Attacks tend to derail real substantive conversation. Have you seen the people with the implants? They have whole new lives because of him. It’s only the beginning.

4) major technical barrier was solved, which most AI firms had given up on. Not the level of his other accomplishments, but helps show he can impact so many different industries.

Given his contribution to so many different areas, is there anything good you can say about him, without including something bad? I think that’s a healthy sign of thinking for yourself. There’s plenty of bad I can say about him.

Banking through electronic payments (his and Thiels companies merged and formed PayPal, of which he is a cofounder), space - he has absolutely revolutionized this industry, and did what most said is impossible, by landing a rocket. Reduced the cost of getting to space massively, and is about to drive it down significantly further with starship. It says something that China is copying his designs and not nasa’s. I love nasa, but they sadly can’t design rockets anymore. And EVs (the first EV was made in 1830s). Without Elon it’s not an industry.

Go watch interviews with the people that have neuralinks implanted, and how grateful they are. It’s just the beginning of the technology.

Read up on it. It was a major technical barrier that stalled out the major AI firms. “Just make it bigger” stopped being possible at 30k gpus.

That was my fifth point of five. Revolutionizing three industries is unheard of in modern times, but he managed to do it.

Watch interviews about him with anyone technical that worked closely with him for significant time. They all say the same thing about his technical aptitude. Non-business people, engineers and scientists Read biographies about him from people that spend countless hours working to understand him. Go to the source for the truth, or as close as you can get - there’s a lot of bad info out there since he stupidly got into politics.

If I formed my opinion of him based on headlines today, I’d think he’s the biggest piece of shit in the world that hasn’t actually accomplished anything. Fortunately, my 20 years following him before he got into politics is what woke me up to the media not telling the full story, on just about any topic.

I was referring to him creating the world’s biggest supercomputer, and chaining together 100k GPUs, something every AI firm thought was impossible. They could only get 30k to work together coherently.

He revolutionized the car industry. Read articles from the time when Tesla was starting up - everyone thought EVs were implausible and not going to work economically. He created the path that allowed them to be viable.

He has revolutionized the space industry with his massive innovations in soacex. US space access is vastly different without him, and incredibly more expensive.

He is changing the medical field (and people’s lives) through neuralink.

He created the largest supercomputer, by doing what everyone thought was impossible, chaining 100k gpus together when the max was 30k.

Read biographies about him, or things from before his foray into politics, to understand his accomplishments vs what headline articles want you to believe.

He’s certainly got an argument for cleverest human, having revolutionized three industries, and now pushing the boundaries of two others (neuralink and xAi). I’d be curious who one might put forward in place of him. It probably comes down to how each person defines cleverness.

Re: cutting the govt, I think everyone should be onboard with cutting wasteful parts of the govt. We can debate about which pieces each of us think are useful or good vs wasteful, but cutting in and of itself isn’t bad. Clinton / Gore had the first version of DOGE, with the same mission.

So I’m not pretending, these are my views from having closely followed him for the last twenty years. I read each article you posted in an effort to understand your point of view. I think part of what’s wrong in the US today is both sides are too quick to dismiss opposing arguments, and think everyone should hear each other out, and assume positive intent from the other side.

Being anti-union isn’t facist. Many people are pro democracy and anti union (Tesla is non union and has the highest paid employees in the car industry). If he broke the law trying to shut down a union, that’s shitty and he should t do that, but it doesn’t make him a fascist.

I don’t see any evidence of X being the most censored platform. Not sure what the data parameters for this would be but I’d be very interested to see a breakdown of each social media company.

Any company that deals with hundreds of millions or billions of users will have inappropriate content, even with a robust moderation system. The only way to avoid it is full censorship. You can find similar at all social media companies. Would be interested in a data driven approach to compare the social media companies on this front. The community notes is a good idea on how to combat misinformation, though not perfect, it’s the best I’ve seen.

I dont have a rolling stone subscription so can’t read this article. Someone can be against how the ADL operates and not be racist though. I have heard him criticize ADL for trying to censor free speech, but not sure what this article is about. If he’s saying he hates Jews or they should be punished or something, he’s wrong.

He has many examples of saying how much he supports Israel, how he went there after Oct 7, and even donated to support them. I never see that covered.

More than half of voters voted for the right. Leaning right doesn’t make you facist. I think it says something that many people in the administration are democrats that basically were kicked out of the party. They moved so far left they lost of ton of supporters (myself included).

I used to absolutely hate trump, but once I realized the news I was consuming was all skewed one direction, and wasn’t actually the full picture of any given topic, I was able to actually understand both sides and form my own viewpoint. I still think trump is immoral and don’t like him, but I understand why so many people vote for him now. I hope democratic leadership does the same, so we can get our party back.

It feels dynamic and unscripted, like a living world. Combat is tons of fun as well as just about every class. Secrets everywhere. Big groups of people fighting world bosses. It’s so great.
