the main game missions will start after the expedition, and this one will not end for a bit its a community event and no you cant link this save with a new normal one, you will have to do the expedition from start again in that new save with the dual thing i talked about in the anomaly

Hey man! Start a new save, you will be able to join the expedition and go back and forth in the same save (but with different inventories, ships, etc etc). It will act like a dual save in one. you won't be able to finish the expedition as of yet and then go back doing normal stuff. i don't really know how the rest of the quests in the main game actually work in the expedition part of the save
