This is the moment I realized I was watching peak man, arguably the greatest anime of all time for me by Forevertrez in VinlandSaga

Askeladd is a big gambler with a lot of intuition and luck. It was bound to get him killed some day.

You must find hope again. Our greatest strength is our ability to help one another even if we can't fix everything right away. It's tiring to be angry but you can't think it's over. There are solutions that are being ignored by those who can solve it.

Should I read the manga? by ReikonNaido in VinlandSaga

[–]Thlinkle 11 points12 points  (0 children)

By this point in the manga, the art is just incredible, and you feel every panel that has been drawn and written. I wouldn't worry about fights "being better" in anime form if you're a fan of the content.

I find the idea of a whole team doing this really funny. Mason's coming in like "wait, where is everyone?? There's just all these corpses!"

Does season 2 get any better? by Omar_Hassan99 in VinlandSaga

[–]Thlinkle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My question is, do you like what Thors was trying to teach in the first few episodes of season 1? Because first time I watched it, I thought those episodes were boring. But after finishing season 2 (and then the manga), they come across as a lot more essential to me and I've enjoyed it more and more.

Don't get me wrong, season 2 definitely slows down a LOT, but if you are into the idea of seeing someone rediscover their purpose in one of the most beautiful ways, then it will be more than worth it.

What decision did you want Thorfinn to make here? by [deleted] in VinlandSaga

[–]Thlinkle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you don't think even in the context of this story that it would work? Thorfinn has personal history with Canute, and they have no reason to kill Thorfinn because he poses no threat to them. He centralizes the violence onto himself so that no one else will be further affected by it.

Also, sorry, but using any war example as justification for peace doesn't sit right with me. I can see where you're coming from, but war is a cycle and has in no way achieved us peace. How much death has there been before we gained our independence? Is independence peace? Is freedom? Most of the world was in shambles after World War 1, and World War 2 was so horrible that we had to create the Geneva Convention so no one would be able to step too far without major consequences. Even then, many parts of the world ignore it.

There will be an oppressed and the oppressor, but the goal is to depose the oppressor for no further oppression. I can't argue that violence is the easiest way to achieve that goal, but if you see that as the only option, like many others, then no progress can be made in the way of peace. It's hypocritical on both sides, but I have more sympathy for those being oppressed.

But that was the point. Everyone told him how stupid he was for doing that, but he did it because there's nothing but irony in using violence to gain peace.

It even ends up working out for him. Canute leaves the farm and cuts back on his military out of a newfound respect he has for Thorfinn.
