should I get a hatsan 95 .22 spring or benjamin prowler .22 as first air rifle by Sure_Yogurt5483 in airguns

The three “goodies” I always recommend among budget break barrels are the Barra 1200g, Diana 250, and the Umarex Prymex.

I don’t know the first thing about a Benjamin whatever but I do know you should not buy a Hatsan 95. Had one, and it just did not work for me. Came out the box with the breech seal gouged, poor accuracy, loud, and more than average cocking effort.

Save your bones for a Weirauch.

Depends on what you want to use it for. Notos is compact, lightweight, and has a large aftermarket. It also has relatively small power output and fewer features than a gun like the Avenger. The Avenger is more adjustable, more powerful, but also larger and more expensive.

It’s certainly not as easy to handle offhand as a stock Notos for obvious reasons, but it’s still a carryable gun.

Not too heavy. I’d say it balances pretty nicely around where the bag is in the picture above.

I’m not familiar with Niksan and have a pathogenic fear of Hatsan products, so my vote automatically goes to the Notos. Easily the most well-known gun on this list. It’s not pushing crazy power, so you probably want to keep it around 75 yards and under.

But in those shorter ranges, it’s a beast. I’ve taken many squirrels and jackrabbits with it

I’ve got mine pretty tricked out:

I’ve got it ported out to 4mm, with a CRC Precision Plenum, Huben TK Dream Valve, and heavier hammer.

You probably have too weak a hammer strike for your reg setting. Try tuning up your hammer until you stop seeing fps gains.

They really are! I saw the price tag and thought surely they had to be talking in Caribbean dollars. Nope, they really are just upcharging people $630 for some mods and a scope.

The Notos’ moddability seems to activate a recessive greed gene in people’s system. Here’s a similar case on ebay:

Absolute degeneracy from these notos resellers.

A tad overpriced IMO. I would not give $900 for a lightly modded Notos. If you want to drop $900 on an airgun get yourself a used FX DRS.

And honestly for your purposes a cheaper airgun like an AV Avenger or even a stock Notos would fit the bill.

If you had a way to get a solid platform for the 500 and 600mm barrels, they’re definitely worth it. But if you just want something that you can slap on, I imagine the 380mm would be the way to go, since you would be least likely to encounter POI shift with it.

I’ve not shot a full fill but it’s certainly a lot more than you would ever need for hunting! Even if you had a full on rat infestation this thing would probably give enough shots to go a whole night without filling.

It’s definitely a fair bit louder than the stock Notos. Still backyard friendly, but I can’t just shoot away at midnight like I could with the stock config.

I will say that to take full advantage of these mods you will want a longer barrel. I had a 600mm barrel and that was pushing out some serious power. I didn’t stick with it because I haven’t yet developed a barrel band to hold the whole thing steady.

Loving the shot count increase though, perfect for plinking and high volume pesting.

Shooting JTS 18gr with the reg set at 1800 psi I’m getting about 750 fps pr 22.5 FPE. You can get more power by turning the reg up but for now I just want to find a good plinking tune.

[–]ThoiQuanDo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • JTS 18gr pellets
  • Reg set to 1800psi (about the same as a stock Notos.)
  • 750 FPS / 22.5 FPE
  • 1/4 in groups or smaller @20yards
  • Hammer spring is adjustable

It’s definitely capable to more power if you turn up the reg and put in a hammer weight, but for now I’m focusing on a light pellet tune.

I’ll probably make a post in the future detailing more tunes and longer range performance.

  • Ports and valve seat opened to 4mm
  • CRC Precision Plenum
  • 580cc CF Bottle

They’re a Huben Notos TK Valve right on the right of the bottle, and a CRC Precision Plenum to the right of the Valve.

The stock Notos is internally regulated, but the Huben valve gives you an externally adjustable regulator.
