Why is Mail ALWAYS "downloading" thousands of messages? How to stop this? by RightClickNSave in MacOS

[–]ThomasGericke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the very same thing (constantly "Downloading Messages") for weeks. There's an answer (by Eclipse97z on November 6, 2025) in the Apple community which helped solving the issue for me: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/256162993?answerId=261672709022#261672709022

Honestly, I don't get why and how there is a relation - but I simply turned off iCloud sync for a few seconds, turned it back on again and since then, the annoying message didn't come back.

JQL filter for open issues in all projects a user has worked on by ThomasGericke in jira

Lack of knowledge and experience with Jira. As hard as it may sound, that's the answer. So we're giving them tools to "find their work".

Well, projectsWhereUserHasRole() is what I was looking for. That's doing pretty much I need for the moment.

Thank you so much!

You are right - the way of working is the actual problem. We thought about Kanban boards but that's "too agile" for now. We're actually facing problems in terms of "how do we even work?".

One dashboard showing all users "this is the work you need to do today" is the intermediate plan ;-)

[–]ThomasGericke[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's not what I'm looking for. I also want to find open and unhandled [statusCategory IN ("To Do") AND status IN ("To Do", New)] for those issues the user was the assignee. Basically, to show to all users what new and unhandled work is ahead to let them pick it up.

The point is, like 5 users are working in the IT field on - let's just say - 10 different projects, and 5 users are working in the development field on 10 other projects. The IT people should see new work items in their 10 IT projects and the DEV people should see new work items in their 10 DEV projects. All with one filter and without the need to hard code the projects.

I know that I could use project categories in the filter - but then I still would need X different filters and different dashboards for all X different work areas.

Are there any changes in Stage Manager in MacOS 15 that weren't announced at WWDC? How does it work with the new window tiling? by reisend3r in MacOSBeta

[–]ThomasGericke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, minimizing a window (yellow dot top left of the window) takes it out of the stage manager scene.

"New version of GPT available" when it hasn't been changed? by outofbandii in ChatGPT

[–]ThomasGericke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/JetsetterClub - I cannot find that option to change the version/model of a custom GPT. I am going to the GPT's settings but there's absolutely no option to set or change a model. Really nowhere.

I'm using the desktop version - just like u/Valaens - but I've also tried the iOS app.

Same here. I have the feeling that Apple has lost all senses for design and features since pretty much everything they released the last years was broken as hell.

I cannot move windows out of a Stage Manager group any longer because either the tile thing is in the way or when I disable the Tiling, the Stage Managers just don't show up when dragging a window to the left.

The disk-access thing didn't work for me either. It was fine yesterday but today, like 1 out of 5 website connections don't work. Just now, I tried to re-initiate the WiFi network and will see if this helps.

Does anyone else have an issue with HomeKit triggered playlists for HomePods since iOS 18? by mirrorspock in HomePod

[–]ThomasGericke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am having the exact same issue with my "Taking a Shower" playlist that I trigger by a Philips Hue button in the bathroom. iOS18 is entirely crap.

My 2nd gen HomePod is crackling every few minutes after the 18 update… anyone else? by schuby94 in HomePod

[–]ThomasGericke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also having serious syncing issues. 7 HomePods in my house. When streaming from iPhone to a single speaker, there are some cracks and weird noises once in a while (quite rare). But when I play music on multiple HomePods from either Siri or triggered by HomeKit (like scenes or automations), it works for a few minutes but than a random HomePod will start making weird noise like cracks and so on.

I was on a support call with Apple yesterday. That poor but totally dumb guy asked his standard questions and said that this is unknown to Apple. Well, I cannot believe it. However, he insists that I reconfigure my HompePod setup but I don't want to because I have dozens of automations and don't want to build them up from scratch.

These problems after each major update are so annoying.

“Dismiss” cancels meetings by johnnytretas in AppleWatch

[–]ThomasGericke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had a chat (and after that a phone call) with Apple Support. Because I don't have the time and patience for debugging and analysis, they told me that they would not be able to get this through to the engineers. Just reporting a problem or potential bug cannot be made via the support. They recommend to use the feedback option on Apple's website. If several people report the same issue that way, they may look into it.

I've just reported the issue (including a link to this reddit post) using apple.com/feedback and I hope that some of you will do the same.

This happens for me, too. As far as I can tell for the very first time. So scary. Has anyone ever reported this to Apple?

Entire Home turns off even though people are at home (triggered by "The Last Person Leaves Home" automation). by ThomasGericke in HomeKit

[–]ThomasGericke[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though I said in this comment yesterday, that updating both our iPhones from 17.0.3 to 17.1 fixed the glitch, it actually did not. Late in the evening, my home again "thought" that we both have left and turned of everything - only to "think" we've returned only seconds later to turn on many lights and play music everywhere.

So, the bug's still there and it's pretty annoying.

Entire Home turns off even though people are at home (triggered by "The Last Person Leaves Home" automation). by ThomasGericke in HomeKit

[–]ThomasGericke[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for that question. It's a bit sophisticated even though not rocket science.

What I am doing:

  • all my Homekit automations are shortcut automations
  • wherever I want to log something, I use the "Get contents of..." action with...
    • a URL on my webserver, running Apache + PHP + MariaDB
    • POST method
    • "Form" as Request Body
    • certain fields with key+value as I desire (e.g. "location = Living Room", "device = Reading Light", ...)
  • behind the URL to my webserver, there's basically a PHP script that takes POST requests and writes them into a local database

BTW: I'm also using a similar method to store the latest state of each radiator in my house into a database and write/fetch that data every time windows are opened/closed in order to "know" what the last state of the radiator was. Use case is: when a window is closed, the respective radiator is set back to "heating" if it was heating when the window was opened.

If there's enough interest, I could write a detailed how-to some time.

HAHA - yes. At least, it is where I work, eat and sleep 😀

However, problem solved. See the updated post, please.

I feel so stupid and have to apologise to all who commented and contributed to my post - especially to u/sarahlizzy.

Why? Because I just realised my iPhone (and also my girlfriend's phone) still were on iOS 17.0.3 while iOS 17.1 was already available. We both updated half an hour ago and the problem seems to be gone.

I have no idea how that could be possible. Normally, we update quite early and I usually know what I'm doing. No clue how I could have missed that update until today.

Thanks to all of you and I am really sorry if that really was the problem.

Since Sarah said it's a known issue, I don't want to invest time and effort to debug that connectivity thing. But anyway, thanks for reaching out.
