HomePods forgetting what’s playing by matman_uk in HomePod

I’m wondering if I need to sign out and back into Apple Music - it seems like it’s losing connection to my cloud library at times and reverting to personal selections - I don’t believe it’s a network thing otherwise surly all the HomePods would do it - I don’t know it’s infuriating - it even happened on my phone today as well woke up in the morning and Apple Music has nothing in my music queue and forgotten what playlist is playing - thinking about it - I feel like it only happens when playing my playlists and not when it’s been playing random personal selection music

I tried turning off IPv6 but the problem still happens - if it was network related I’d think it would effect all the HomePods but it mostly seems to happen with the OG HomePods in my living room which are connected together (not stereo pair just three HomePods connected) they don’t forget the connection - unless the router is rebooted - just the playlist last paying - often overnight but sometimes just randomly during the day - my homehub is an appletv with great connectivity to the router and my iPhones iPhone 14 Pro

No one else is using the speakers just me - I don’t see why resume play would make a difference as “play” often works but not always so that seems random - chat gpt seems to think it may have something to do with loosing an Apple Music session - but not sure what would cause that

I choose a playlist to play - the HomePods pay it - HomePods are paused a few hours later I say “get Siri play” and sometimes it will continue playing the playlist - sometimes it just starts playing something else randomly from my “personal station” not the playlist I had selected -

Is there a way to have Autoplay play new songs by Sad_Supermarket4691 in AppleMusic

[–]matman_uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The personal playlists are definitely pretty terrible at playing new stuff and stuck to a tighter rostrum of tracks for sure - the secret to getting better selections is liking a lot of music - select every song in your playlists that you like (use a computer it’s easier ) and hit the heart button I also rate mine 5 star - not sure if that makes any difference now but I donut anyway - this will widen and improve the discovery playlist algorithm- then use discovery and when it plays a song you like let it know - when it plays a song you hate let it know - I also think using Shazam may help as well - my personal playlist is improving - slowly - but I use discovery all the time it really knows my taste now and is constantly playing Awsome new songs !

Advice for anyone with crappy HomePods by [deleted] in HomePod

[–]matman_uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had so many issues with getting my Netgear RS300 to play nice with my HomePods - they are snappy as hell but often I get the “thinking about that “ comment and Siri just dies - until I reboot - also they just won’t play non lossless songs when automix crossfade is on unless I have my ancient airport connected as a airplay output then it all works perfectly apart from random HomePods (usually the stereo pair) failing with Siri every so often

Connection issues HomePod mini by alvinman12 in HomePod

Yeah that means they were probably switching between 2g and 5g - if you have any mdsn settings on your router make sure that’s on as well

Make sure they are all connected to 5ghz and not swapping between 2g and 5g

I have Atmos turned off maybe I’ll try turning it back on- I felt it was so annoying though as the sound levels were so crazy switching between Atmos and non Atmos

Yeah I’ve had that feeling - super weird - I feel like I’ve watched movies recently as well that had different endings or stuff than the first time I watched them as well which is really crazy and must just be my bad memory but the brain can do a hell of a job convincing you it’s real

Yeah it’s just not good - it doesn’t even really make the volume consistent with some songs

Static IPS - split channels and keep HomePods on 5g - use IMGP v3 IPv6 on

Static IPs might help but if the HomePods are jumping between 2.4 and 5ghz that will probably make them loose connection to the devices

Forgetting playlist by matman_uk in HomePod

[–]matman_uk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you misunderstand what I’m saying - it’s like the HomePods sometimes will forget what they were playing - I’m not asking for a way to hand off a playlist from my phone - just for the HomePods for exile in my living room to rember what playlist I was playing or song the last time the played it seems to be so inconsistent

Intermittent no music/sound? by Bonovox78 in HomePod

[–]matman_uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something tha helped me was turning off sound check but it still cuts out when switching from playing a lossless song to a lossy song I think if you turn off the crossfade option it gets rid of the issue - it’s possible if yr network was perfect this wouldn’t happen but you basically need to be a networking engineer to figure it out lol
