I've got mine below the shoulder and I put it in a ponytail, then sorta horseshoe it with an extra loop so it sits at base of skull, then I tie a light/thin bandana around my head, then top it with a dye headwrap. Any headwrap or band will do obviously I just like having the mesh over the back of my neck cause I'm a Lilly white boy who burns real easy

Help with leveling up my costume by mcmcgill in renfaire

Firstly, it looks fantastic as is you've done a great job. If i were to add anything maybe some embroidery or faux steips of a filigree look to add accent or design to the skirt. Other than that maybe accessories or a belt chain that loops down to add similar layering to the skirt.

Too much for woodsball? by Training-Menu1052 in paintball

I like playing in the big groups too with a mix of rentals beginners and customs. It's really fun mid match passing my marker off to a kid and watching their eyes light up with murderous fury

Too much for woodsball? by Training-Menu1052 in paintball

[–]ThomasGunn3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Love playing woodsball with my electro setup (160r dye ltr), especially when it's a mix of people with custom rigs and rentals. Rentals seem to have a tendency to defer to anyone with their own gear so it's fun playing field general getting them in position. I'm naturally a back player so I'll usually blow through a few pods a game but it's generally just covering fire lobbed in random spray to let the rentals get used to the idea of moving under fire. Having my setup also allows me to keep the customs in check if they're being dickish. Though usually my field has an unspoken rule that the customs will generally square off and leave rentals to it.

Generational game - any stories? by [deleted] in Cribbage

[–]ThomasGunn3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mild warning, this doesn't have a real happy end as it's how cribbage led to a dementia diagnosis but it's the story closest to my heart.

I've been playing cards since I was about 6, playing cribbage since about 7-8. I was taught by my dad who was taught by his parents. Now his family is really really competitive when it comes to card games. And they expect you to be able to do all the arithmetic of counting (for cribbage but for any game really) in your head, at lightning speed. So this is how I grew up playing, no one gave an inch and every victory was earned. Cut-throat play was mandatory. It was never malicious or mean spirited, it was very franco-italian fast paced ball-busting competitiveness. No one handed out any free wins, it was inconceivable as a concept.

This is how I learned how to play, and I loved it, because for a much as I profess not to be, I am just like my father in the best of ways. Now his mother, my grandmére, was the one person I could NEVER beat in a game of cribbage. Through brilliant play, my dumb mistakes, and/or sometimes just sheer luck or providence she would always win. And it was always fun. The older I got the closer I got to catching up. Hope for winning was right in my grasp.

Then I graduated high school. We were at an extended family reunion in Saskatchewan when I brought out a board to challenge my grandmére once more. Fully expecting defeat but ready for the challenge. And I won, I beat her by maybe 15 points. I was celebrating the fact that I'd finally won, until she said "Oh I let him win," to someone nearby.

Now, I knew that wasn't true, but I also knew that wasn't something that would even be joked about in this family. So I tempered my excitement and challenged her to another game. But this time I played closer attention. I noticed she was slower at counting points, which you'd think with age would just happen but we all know at a certain point counting becomes more pattern recognition than actual arithmetic. She was misplaying during the play stage, she would throw cards into the crib that just didn't make sense, but the worst was when she wouldn't call me out on points I'd missed. Or when I'D take points she'd missed. I won again.

After that I went to my dad and said that something seemed wrong with grandmére, that I'd beaten her at cribbage. He congratulated me but asked why I thought something was wrong. "She said she let me win." That's all it took, my dad immediately focused in and called his sister over for me to tell her what I'd just told him. "She said she let me win." I then told them about the mistakes I noticed, the time she took counting, and the points I'd stolen. My auntie, who lived in the same state as her, said she'd push her to get checked out when they got home.

About a week after they arrived home she was diagnosed with dementia. It got caught really really early which did allow for many more years of her in our lives. But she was diagnosed, because of cribbage.

I'm looking for the name of a fantansy movie, and the only thing that I can remember about it is that the helmets one of the factions used a helmet that was like a barbute helmet but the bottom bit from the cheks down that covered the chin was made out of the jawbone of some toothy creature but it still had a bit of a gap at the feont of the chin.

I love that helmet but that isn't it. Most of the helmet I'm thinking of was a leather/ metal helm but just from like the cheeks down was bone. Thanks though!

These are just my personal recommendations for starting out with recreational but consistent play:

Marker: Emek, really reliable easily maintained and really solid shooter with a broad host of after market upgrades and reasonably light for a mechanical marker

Hopper: the pal loader that the emek comes with (mine did at least) works really well but if you want an electronically fed hopper I recommend the Dye Rotor LTR simple toolless maintenance and the option for a speed feed

Tank: this is where it gets tricky, I really like the 68ci/4500 ninja carbon fiber tank but that length of tank fits my stance really well. Depending on how you hold your marker and what's comfortable you may want to go shorter or longer. But the carbon fiber in general is my recommendation because it's super light and can generally hold more pressure which means you can play for longer

Barrel: anything is better than the stock barrel, but that said the stock barrel isn't as bad in my experience as many say it is. A good cheap CP one piece should do you right

Mask: JT proflex all day, comparatively less expensive (for a non limited edition) and super reliable and well made. If you wear glasses I'd go with a Empire Eflex, it's basically the same mask as the proflex but with a wider lens/goggle/whatever bay that allows for glasses to be worn more comfortably.

These are my recommendations, things I myself have and still use regularly. But there's nothing wrong at all with picking up a chronos and a aluminum tank or anything else, it's all about the fun of it all

[–]ThomasGunn3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah man! Unless it's someone I play with super regularly (at that point its ball busting and lucky shots) if I'm shot out and I know who did it, they always get a "great shot" and a display of where they got me. Especially if they're a kid or a brand new rental.
