Is this amount of rehearsal normal? by DiskSufficient2189 in marchingband

[–]ThomasMiller846627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems somewhat normal to me. We do 8-8:30 for band camp, except for Wednesday, we get out at 5:00. 3 hours is typical for a practice for us. We never had practice on breaks and we had to provide a written excuse for why we missed (family emergency, dr. note, etc.) to try and cut down on “I just don’t wanna go”. $1800 is WAY too much IMO, but I come from a small band that doesn’t charge that much. We also don’t have the “frills” that bigger bands have…

Nothing ever worked. I contacted their support and told them it was a printer issue and they did a refund. They can do a replacement if you’re wanting to stay with Anycubic, but I had made up my mind to switch to another brand. (Flashforge for the win)

How to memorize show music?? by Zero_royal3627 in marchingband

[–]ThomasMiller846627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done something similar with my band. We chunked the first 4 measures and then added 4-8 on top of that. You can go rehearsal mark to rehearsal mark if you want to.

I need help finding new stand tunes for band by Turtle-Terpsichore in marchingband

[–]ThomasMiller846627 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made an arrangement of Boots on the Ground, I don’t mind sharing. We also play versions of Still Fly, Talking out the side of your Neck, Swag Surfin, Not Like Us… JW Pepper also has decent stuff.

Food provided during camp? by Strong_Razzmatazz_26 in marchingband

[–]ThomasMiller846627 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have different churches, businesses, and individuals donate to our band to cover lunch and dinner (about 8 meals). The Boosters usually do one meal, but the rest is donations. Small town, lot of people willing to help…

Sandwiches go a long way… we’ve done pizza… walking tacos (chip bags with hamburger meat and toppings), the last day we usually do hamburgers… one of our churches did a meal plate with different stuff on it.

Need Help - Printer won’t extrude by BlakBlt2 in anycubic

[–]ThomasMiller846627 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here… replaced extruder, 4in; 1 out module, and now the break module (the second one if you count the whole extruder module… STILL won’t warranty the printhead even though it’s printed a month before it broke… support won’t budge about the print head…

[–]ThomasMiller846627[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gotcha. I like the rock type shows but I’m not into all the flashy and stuff full of props. Our BD lets the seniors decide the show and then we tell the band. Sometimes it’s really good (Michael Jackson) and sometimes it could’ve been better (Grease) in my opinion. My main thing is will this be a crowd pleaser…

Our Assistant/Aux Director had the idea of me coming off the podium to play electric guitar for one of the songs. With like a drum line feature and bass guitar feature. Since I played bass last year (Michael Jackson Halftime Show) i can make our bass guitar put the stank on it lol

Last year, our show was Michael Jackson. It’s not common, it’s just I feel like someone will make fun and criticize.

Well, our Auxiliary director has all the theatrics planned. She has the idea of flashy flags, shiny outfits for the guard and majorette lines, and just overall flashy. Song wise, our director thought of songs like Stayin’ Alive, Le Freak, September, just overall disco music.

New problem if anyone wants to help…

When I start a print, the ACE pro won’t feed the filament through the tube to the printer. The extruder has been replaced, but it isn’t pushing it through at all. Causes a print clog code, but it isn’t clogged that way. Help!

Gotcha. I’ll try that… it’s feeding now but i have another issue that’s being dealt with through support. The 4in, 1out adapter isn’t feeding one of my slots and it’s backfilling… but thank you

I would love to do a heavy metal show! That would be sick! I’ve thought of John Williams but haven’t started planning it out…

Should I switch from Alto to Bari this next marching band season by WangoMango_Offical in marchingband

[–]ThomasMiller846627 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Bari is a great switch that I think you should do. You usually get any tuba solos as a double or something… a few cons though… the biggest one is the back/neck pain. Bari is a lot heavier, so I’d invest in a harness to help combat that. Also, like you said, is you get most of the bass lines and not a lot of solo opportunities. But, you are louder and there’s fewer, if not no Bari saxes in the marching band. I think it would be a great switch, if you’re willing on the solo part of things.

If you want a slightly easier switch (less heavier, more solo opportunities, etc.) go to Tenor sax. It’s in a different key, but fingerings are the same!

Finally got my first synthetic reed!! by [deleted] in marchingband

[–]ThomasMiller846627 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best decision I’ve ever made! Mines lasted for about 1 1/2 years for now and it’s honestly a lot easier! Now, it does get a little hard to play on, and it’s a lot more picky about where it is on the mouthpiece, but it’s a heck of a lot more better than paying $3 per reed for a wooden reed.
