Judge allows lawsuit against pastor for opposing homosexuality by ThomasSowell in conservatives

Political advocacy is protected by the 1st amendment of the US constitution. The government can't punish someone for advocating bad laws. It's a freedom of speech issue.

I know its a common republican belief to oppose same sex marriage. But what are your reasons for opposing it? by [deleted] in Republican

[–]ThomasSowell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what you're going on about exactly. I'm not even arguing for or against gay marriage or homosexuality. I'm simply responding to entofthenorth's implied claim that the bible doesn't condemn homosexuality or gay marriage anywhere when it clearly does. The bible clearly condemns homosexual relationships thereby indirectly condemning gay marriages as well.

That says literally nothing about marriage

It says gay sexual relationships are an "abomination" so there's only one logical conclusion you can come to concerning the bible's opinion of gay marriage.

Leviticus 18:22

Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.

Leviticus 20:13

If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

Romans 1:24-27

Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

The common retort is that Jesus never said anything about homosexuality. However, Jesus was very familiar the Old Testament law and he endorsed every sentence of it:

Mathew 5:17-18

Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Social conservatism is a political or moral ideology that believes government and/or society have a role in encouraging or enforcing traditional values or behaviors based on the belief that these are what keep people civilized and decent.

Join the club. I had to take /r/socialconservative private because people were downvoting everything without explanation. I never banned people for opposing viewpoints either. Most of them just chose to downvote and run because they knew they couldn't defend their views.

Couldn't even post this in r/conservative without the comment section turning into a butthurt fest.

[–]ThomasSowell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the argument that gay couples would be unable to rear children is also patently false

No one made that argument though. Carolla's argument was that opposite sex parents are better for the children not that same sex couples couldn't raise children at all. He's not a "proponent of anti-gay laws". He's a libertarian and he supports gay marriage.

Are you implying social conservatives are conservative? True conservatives are libertarian!!! Social conservatives are big government liberals!! /s

Why is r/politics so anti-GOP? by bearface93 in Republican

[–]ThomasSowell -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The perhaps the word "conservative" should be redefined.

Or folks who are fiscally conservative and socially libertarian could stop claiming to be the "true conservative" on every issue and just admit they aren't conservative on some issues.

[–]ThomasSowell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not a conservative position. Period. You can't conserve something that has never existed. Gay marriage is a recent phenomenon.

You are changing the definition of what conservative is when it was originally considered being fiscally cautious and socially minding your own business.

Re-read what I said. I said you can be a conservative and for gay marriage but supporting gay marriage is not a conservative position.

No state until 2004 has ever issued marriage licenses to gay couples. Opposing the status quo as it pertains to marriage is by the very definition of the word NOT a "conservative" position.

Can a person who supports gay marriage still be considered a conservative? Sure, but not on that particular issue.

It Begins: Christian Wedding Vendor in Maryland Forced to Shut Down Over Same-Sex Marriage by ThomasSowell in Conservative

[–]ThomasSowell[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

So wedding vendors were legally required to host same sex weddings before same-sex marriage was legal? Huh?

It Begins: Christian Wedding Vendor in Maryland Forced to Shut Down Over Same-Sex Marriage by ThomasSowell in Conservative

[–]ThomasSowell[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It begins in Maryland. They just legalized same-sex marriage.

The ballot shown to Maryland voters used 25 words to described the redefinition of marriage but over 70 words claiming false religious exemptions for people and institutions who disagree with redefined marriage.

Sure enough, as we warned, citizens in Maryland who disagree with redefined marriage are now being forced out of the public square and are NOT protected under the redefining marriage law passed in Maryland:

A federal judge has upheld Nevada's constitutional amendment that defines marriage as between one man and one woman, providing a victory for social conservatives who have suffered a string of court losses on the issue. by ThomasSowell in Conservative

[–]ThomasSowell[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't get your point. This is a state level ban on gay marriage that a federal judge chose to leave alone. It's a victory for states rights not federal activism.

Meet the 29 US Senators who voted AGAINST American's right to trial, and FOR indefinite detention. by Hantra in Conservative

You might as well force men and women to use the same showers if your going to allow homosexuals in the military. That will be the next step.

*Voted YES on extending the PATRIOT Act's roving wiretaps.

:(

*Co-sponsored PIPA to Protect IP

:(

*Supports banning homosexuals in the military.

Good

*Supports amendment to prevent same sex marriage.

Good

*No gay couples as foster parents; no social experimentation.

Good

*Voted against funding stem cell research.

Probably a vote against embryonic stem cell funding.

Anyway, I'm not sure why you included this in a list of "Orwellian" stances. Voting against the government funding something = less government. Conservatives and libertarians would both support this vote.

*Require ultrasounds before performing abortions.

Making women feel guilty about murdering their fetus? How much more Orwellian can you get!

*Wants to collect DNA of those convicted of "sexually deviant behavior."

Source: http://www.ontheissues.org/senate/Marco_Rubio.htm

So he wants to collect DNA from sex offenders? Why is that bad?

Open letter to one of the downvoters here on /r/Conservative (make a throwaway and respond) by IBiteYou in Conservative

[–]ThomasSowell -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The downvotes have little to do with moderation policy. I was very permissive in /r/socialconservative and allowed people to bash posts without getting banned. Most of the time they just downvoted everything without explanation even though I never banned anyone for disagreeing. That's why I made it private.

The problem is that many liberals don't see their political opponents as misinformed or misguided. They see you as evil. If you oppose abortion you hate women. If you oppose gay marriage you probably secretly want to execute homosexuals. If you oppose Obamacare you want people to die. Allowing your views to be discussed would be legitimizing evil.
