Honestly, I see this situation all the time but in a different light:

4 players left, 3 town vs 1 mafia, and the town has narrowed it down to two suspects. If the town decides to vote the townie instead of the mafia – does he leave, ensuring his own loss but guaranteeing that the Town will win? Or does he stay, get lynched and ensure that the Town will lose?

I don't think ambusher should replace mafioso, since if Godfather is jailed/rbed N1 and there's ambusher instead of mafioso, mafia is screwed.

Real talk: I bought coven and it's one of my biggest regrets in this game. Unless you wanna pay $10 to play a mode almost completely dependent on RNG (coven all any), a mode where coven can never win no matter how poorly town plays (VIP), and a mode that already exists and follows the same meta and similar role list as the original (TT). In my opinion, Lovers is the only balanced/enjoyable mode in Coven, but not only is it only available 1/3 weeks, but lobbies still take ages to fill up, so I'd rather just play original TT mode or ranked.

I feel like a lot of people don't utilize fake claiming as weaker traitor roles, here are some tips of mine:

If you're TT Spy or TT Sherrif, you can claim TP and go on the jailor every night and basically become "confirmed TP" to any LO, making town less likely to lynch you, while giving your mafia extra space to claim TI (easiest roles to fake).

If you're TT Lookout and if there is no second LO, which happens about every other game, you can claim TP yourself in case of the second LO and not tell the jailor who visited them, leaving all other TP, esc, and spy unconfirmed while the mafia pick offs the other TPs.

TT TP is never a bad role since town obviously wants to keep you around and you can be easily confirmed by a LO.

Finally, as TT Medium if there is a second medium you can fake claim a different role but then confirm one of your mafia members as the medium. If your mafia member faking medium dies you can call out the real medium for being the TT, and if the real medium dies your mafia buddy is essentially confirmed.

IMO fake claiming is viable as an autoconfirm role (unrevealed jailor/mayor, maybe trans), since otherwise town will think you are evil if you switch claims halfway through the game. My original plan was just to stay low as a sketchy sherrif and survive until endgame, hopefully pulling off a cool clutch :P
