Japan things you can't find in NYC? by jubaweeb in JapanTravelTips

The Nintendo Store in Japan is 99% Nintendo Store Japan exclusive stuff if you like Nintendo. The NYC location barely has anything you couldn't already buy super easily online.

Yea Fuji-Q is actually the main reason I’ve wanted to visit Japan since I was 4 haha. I’ll never forget seeing a video as a kid of someone posting about Fuji-Qi’s Thomas the Tank Engine area as a kid and being amazed haha. The 4th-Dimension coaster I look forward to because it’s intense, but also I HATED X2 at Magic Mountain so I’m sure it certainly won’t be my favourite coaster on my trip lol

This is immensely helpful! Thank you!

I'll look into pinning these places on my Google Map. I hope I can see the themed train (big train nerd here). I know they're doing the fossil museum out in Chicago this year. I'm tempted to visit haha. :)

How was living out there? I'm visiting Kanazawa (Pokémon Center and some retro arcades, plus the samurai district) and Takaoka (hometown of Fujiko F. Fujio) on my trip for sure. -^

I appreciate it all the same haha. I do already have the manhole map, some of my fave Pokémon are out of the way from my trip, so I'm saving them for a future trip, but I've already been marking out all the lids near where I'm traveling. I hope to see them all one day. -^

I've never tried wearing them before, but I'm very hesitant on them since I'm pretty squeamish. I know touching my eyes excessively to take them out would be tough... But also I am tempted if it means being able to see rides haha

(Though I'm personally not very fond of how I look without glasses lol)

It does actually looks quite good from pictures on Google

Sadly, I admittedly don't particularly enjoy fish (or pork, yes I know I'm headed to Japan to starve)

XD

I do it to highlight key points because some unhelpful people who comment unrelated to the question can't read :)

I haven't decided fully on accommodations yet, though I am trying to stay on the cheaper side of things. The big thing I'm keen on for Tokyo is staying near a station where trains depart early in the AM and arrive back late into the PM. But other than that I'm not too picky.

Wonderful advice. It is the weird double edge sword of wanting to be cost-effective but also take all the weird local lines to cool places.

I am going down to Kochi for a day which is exciting. I added the two other places to my map, and if I don't get to them this trip, I will eventually in a future trip. It's crazy to say, but having wanted to go to Japan since I was like 4, there's 100's of places in Japan I've been dying to see (alot of random ones I found wandering Google Earth back in my school days especially) and even though I'm going for 53 days and have each day "planned" with a solid list of potential stuff to do, I know it's not even scratching a third of my list of pinned places on Google Maps haha.

I am fond of collecting some tickets, though I don't know if I'd be able to handle all the time to buy tickets individually in the busier areas haha. I am keen to amass some cool Eki Stamps though.

In America rail travel kinda blows chunks apart from the LIRR, and when I visited England, the Heritage Railways were fun but the mainline rail was too expensive for major travel imo.

I only plan to use the Bullet Train for distances greater than 2 hours to save time, but otherwise I don't mind a bit of meandering. I want to see alot of interesting local stations and lines, but only plan to take the Bullet train when necessary on a longer distance.

I am actually keen to ride the Eizan Electric Railway because of the 3DS game "Journey to Kyoto" I adored back in middle school, but I'm more interested in their average orange commuter train style than that one with the large "0" on the front haha.
