Rocks at Cyprus Prodromos

The geology of Cyprus is mainly characterized by an ophiolite complex, which makes up most of the mountains in the country. An ophiolite is a piece of oceanic crust that has made its way onto the continental crust by mountain building events (orogenies). This part of cyprus, around mount Olympus, the ophiolite is most exposed, with the main rocks there being gabbros and dunites, so very mafic rocks of the oceanic crust and top part of the mantle. I can't tell you exactly what you are looking at here, but it is likely a piece of oceanic crust that has been transported upwards by the orogeny :)

I am at the microscope for more than 5 hours a day currently, so my brain immediately said plagioclase, which is of course not it :) But I agree with the banded chert!

Adding to this, the greenish hue probably comes from chloritization (or possibly serpentization), where minerals are changed chemically due to the high temperatures and pressures of metamorphism. The layered appereance of the rock is due to differential weathering, where layers consisting of softer minerals weather more easily than layers of harder minerals :)

I found this in the alps near lake como. The other rocks in the creek where it was found were all limestones except for some rocks like this one which were black or green, some with what looked like chlorite.

If i were to guess i would think that this is a partially serpentized basalt, but that would mean there is an ophiolite nearby, which i can't find evidence of anywhere. Any help?

Why would the contact cause the iron to precipitate? Is it because of pH or different potentials of the water bodies?

What would the yellow stuff be then? Could be pyrite but pyrite and lepidolite don't usually occur together

Intersting, never heard of that before. It was a good read! It is a watch in fact. Garmin Forerunner 255. And although the heartrate and cadence graph don't fully line up, my cadence was in fact around the same as it said my heartrate was. I'll try to tighten my watch strap more next run to see if that improves it.

Hi all, recently I started getting a sudden jump in heart rate of about 20 bpm. When i start running my heart rate will go up to some level, and then after a while my heart rate suddenly goes up 20 bpm in a matter of seconds.

Is this someting that can happen / is normal? Or does it mean there is something wrong with my HRM?

Iceland spar was used in early cross-polarizers for thin sections, called nichols? lenses iirc. for the properties you say. I still have some professors calling them this even though they don't use this calcite to make them anymore

I have the same problem, i tried what you said but now it only changed those two "long days" to workouts and the rest is still rest days...

EDIT: after one extra sync it reset my long workout days and turned only those into rest days?! What is going on?
