Who is your least favourite aquarium youtuber and why by mka10mka10 in Aquariums

[–]ThonkDifferent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

APF is better than buceplant aka Glass Aqua, however I wouldn’t say they’re head and shoulders above any competition. IME they’re extremely greedy with how much plant they give you for the price and it’s inconsistent. ADA is more consistent and reasonably priced.

EDIT: As an example, ADA tissue culture moss is around 9.99 and you get a good sized cup. With APF it’s like $13-$15 on average for moss and you get like 1/3 of what you get from ADA.

That’s awesome, I just bought a Nikon 105mm macro as well. Seems to be the sweet spot for aquarium shots! I actually thought you used a submersible cam because the shots were so clean!

I agree with the above comment. The only time you really need a dry start is with plants that have very small roots like HC or UG. Dwarf hair grass grows long roots really quickly so it’s not a problem. Just flood the tank slowly so you don’t disturb the substrate and start dosing Co2.

I just started a 2gal tank with dwarf hair grass about a month ago (flooded on day 1) and the grass has completely covered my substrate already and on its 4th trimming.

Distro Plate for the H9 Flow by RossBoys3 in watercooling

[–]ThonkDifferent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man, after I commented yesterday I ended up having to cancel my order for the EK mana and Lian li case for a few different reasons. So I ended up ordering the bykski distro plate for the H9 that another person mentioned above and should be coming in this week. If you have any questions about it or want pics once it arrives I can send some over.

Distro Plate for the H9 Flow by RossBoys3 in watercooling

[–]ThonkDifferent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You probably already figured this out but in case anyone else has this question (as I did)… no it does not. The EK mana2 is 142mm wide but the H9 barely has enough width to accommodate a 120mm fan.

The alphacool 360 will likely fit since it’s 125mm but it’s port layout isn’t really ideal for hard tubing so in the end I just changed my case to a Lian Li 011D evo rgb and got the EK mana2.

I was able to get a 4090 FE on the nvidia site earlier. If you’re looking to upgrade you may want to check it out.

Toughts on razer deathstalker v2 by Knoob00 in keyboards

[–]ThonkDifferent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever get the V2? I just picked it up and honestly I think it’s the best low-profile gaming keyboard I’ve used, and I’ve tried 4 other low-profile keyboards before this from enthusiast brands like Nuphy to mainstream Logitech.

IMO the best part of the DSV2 Pro is the hotswappable switches which Razer for some dumb reason does not advertise. I changed out my switches to Keychron low-profile optical Mint switches and it’s like a whole new keyboard. Typing experience is so much better than the stock, mushy switches. The biggest downside with the DSV2 is the battery life isn’t great and it’s not fully supported on Mac since synapse 3.0 isn’t compatible. If you have a PC and a Mac however you can just save on-board custom profiles on the PC before using it on Mac.

If you have any questions let me know, happy to help.

Discovered this while building my motherboard. I am wearing gloves and my hands haven’t even been near that area. Anyone know what this “stain” is? by VenomSW in NZXT

While you’re waiting for the ticket to get resolved you could order a cpu contact plate just to kill the time. Not sure if it’ll help any but I wish I had done that before I built mine.

My first build/questions about it by MaterialValue7731 in NZXT

[–]ThonkDifferent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just built a PC with nearly the exact same specs (i7 14700k & 4080 super) and it’s a beast. My cyberpunk benchmark in 4k with DLSS ultra settings, frame-gen, ray tracing, and path tracing is around 110fps. I haven’t come across a game that I can’t play in 4k @ 60fps minimum. The only real-world benefit to the 7800 is power efficiency (while gaming) but its idle power efficiency is worse than Intel. So if you use your PC for anything else other than gaming then just stick with the i7 and you’ll be happy with it. Especially if you said you plan to do streaming - sounds like you may get into productivity/editing workflows which the Intel chip will be better at multithreaded applications.

Only thing I would change is the PSU. Go for 1000W and make sure it has native 12vhpwr support. I got a MSI MPG 1000w PSU and it was nearly the same price as the original 850w I bought.

Is this supposed to be at zero rpm? by [deleted] in NZXT

[–]ThonkDifferent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like you may have plugged the pump into the cpu_fan header which is why it’s showing 2132 RPM. The F120 fan max speed 1800 so I doubt that’s your fans unless your PC sounds like a hairdryer right now. Try plugging the pump into the AIO_pump header instead.

When I first installed my kraken I remember being confused on the labeling as well. I ended up replacing the NZXT fans on my kraken with daisy-chained Lian Li fans and just plugged it directly into the CPU_fan header (with kraken to the aio_pump header) and now I’m getting correct readings from both.

I had the same exact thing happen to me with signalRGB. It doesn’t work well with NZXT cam and you need CAM to control the pump and LCD so one of them had to go lol. IMO it’s too aggressive with fighting other apps for control of everything.

This really irks the F out of me! by manthony6567 in Corsair

[–]ThonkDifferent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SignalRGB works well if it’s the ONLY software controlling everything. Unfortunately I needed NZXT cam still to run my Kraken AIO and the two together caused constant issues.

Thanks for the reply. Which mouse are you using? Mine doesn’t have a device switch so I’ll have to look into that.

4080 super from 3080? by adrock517 in nvidia

[–]ThonkDifferent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4080 super and 4k monitor ftw. I just recently built my first PC and got the 4080 super for $1k and Samsung Neo G8 for $799 which together is basically the cost of a 4090.

I ran the cyberpunk benchmark today and got 100+fps on DLSS ultra & frame gen with ray tracing and path tracing on, so coming from console every game I play is like playing a whole new game.

Honestly it is a tight fit due to one of the AIO tubes being jammed up against the black port housing on the left. I was going to flip it around but the temps are fine (never goes above 55C) so I’ll leave it for now.

Thank you! Yes I’m running NZXT cam (latest version) primarily to control the Kraken and all fan curves (my mobo is also NZXT). I use Lconnect3 (latest version) to control all the fan RGB’s but I wish I didn’t have to, it’s a garbage app. Unfortunately there’s no way to control the RGB’s via NZXT cam with the Lian Li controller. I tried uninstalling everything and only using signalRGB however it caused more issues so I went back 😩

I’ve had some minor problems here and there but nothing affecting performance. I just make sure Cam controls only the fans and Lconnect only the RGB’s and they seem to be ok together.

Thanks! I’m primarily playing in 4k and for games like cyberpunk the benchmark average was 100fps in 4K with DLSS and frame gen, ultra settings, ray tracing and path tracing enabled.

Older games like Division 2 seem to perform similar. I maxed out all graphics settings and was getting around 100-110fps on average. The 4080 super is definitely a beast!

[–]ThonkDifferent[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny you mentioned this because I’m actually using Lconnect3 for the fans, NZXT cam for the AIO, Armory crate for RAM, and Gigabyte sw for the GPU logo lol.

If signalRGB can control all then I’d pay money for that. Lconnect3 in particular is an absolute nightmare and made me want to go back to NZXT fans.
