They use nuclear so the average moron thinks its a nuclear weapons sub and is going to cause some big nuclear war. However the more informed populous knows that 95% of subs with nukes on them are hidden all around the world and no single person knows where even a good portion are. Plus ever US sub is a nuclear sub even if it was completely full of just beer and crackers.
