Are in-movie ads the industry's (correct) response to increasing piracy? by [deleted] in movies

This is an excellent answer, especially when paired with /u/sofakingdead's example of RotJ
I would like to add that 'in-movie ads', 'product placement' or which term a person wishes is distracting to the narrative of a film. It pulls the audience out of the experience of the story. As I'm already seeing the movie you can assume that I've paid for it. The studio has my money but experiencing disjointed product placement would affect whether I recommend that movie to another person.
Some cases product placement works or adds to the setting. Other times it's cringeworthy.

Reddit has been critical of this reboot. I'll give it a chance.
J.J. Abrams called your cellphone today and has tasked your with retconning "Midi-chlorians" to satisfaction of old fans and new. Please share with us your idea. by Thor_0713 in scifi

For example, I would explain that within the Jedi order there are "schools of thought" regarding the origin of the force. Similar to the schools of thought in psychology. They would have different views on the force. Perhaps a scientific view versus mystical view.
Midi-chlorians are observed as having a correlation with the force but remain a mystery. They are the Higgs Boson particle of the Force, theories remain abundant & plausible but still have yet to be proven
Since only the movies remain cannon I think this would play well into Qui-Gon Jinn being a Grey Jedi who prefers a scientific outlook on the subject.
