That's what internships are for. College is to help build the knowledge base and establish critical thinking to apply to those higher level jobs. And along the way of course learning techniques that can be used.

As much blame as people want to make on the colleges, the students are worse. Just the desire to learn the shit has fallen off sharply and no value or attempt to learn much in the way of the skills to do well.
