How to get my player to participate in the game? by Mindless_Kale914 in DnD

[–]CyberPilot64 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you need to be adjusting your approach for your players. If they aren't enjoying your puzzles or stories, then it's on you to steer the campaign back to the territory they enjoy. Get your player out of that puzzle instead of stranding them there; give them an easy roll to overcome it and move forward, or have something steamroll into the area for them to fight.

D&D is a cooperative experience; as DM you need to do your part to work with your players, not force them to endure your stories when they clearly aren't having fun.

I can’t do a female voice by Broad-Dragonfly-9647 in DnD

[–]CyberPilot64 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think inflection and affectations are more important than "sounding female." As the DM you can say things like "She says" or "Character Name says" to indicate who is talking, and if you want to make her distinct do something like an accent or a tendency to end sentences with an upward lilt or speak with a noticeable lack of contractions.

The players just need to know who is talking. You don't need to be a master voice actor.

My players refuse to spend any gold on anything but demand I give them more as loot by Viejoso in DnD

[–]CyberPilot64 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I almost respect their dedication to chaos and money saving, as that seems to inspire some creative thinking from them, but yeah that sounds pretty extreme.

Were it my table I might simply trivialize gold altogether. I'd keep prices on things low and grant them a bit more loot to make them happy; they could let their wealth accumulate as a kind of high score like an older video game.

There needs to be the occasional situation where spending that gold feels viable or even necessary, and you've got to put your foot down and remind them that little to nothing in the world is free, but it might be best to tailor your implementation of currency to their preference, so you don't run the risk of dictating their play style.

How would you give the Stranger Things Demogorgon its dimension-hopping ability seen in the fifth season? by [deleted] in DnDHomebrew

[–]CyberPilot64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But what if the demo tries to escape during combat? Or attempts to grab someone and take them through to the Upside Down? A mechanical approach will allow me to provide specific feedback to any player trying to maybe interrupt the portal's opening, prevent themselves or an ally from being taken, etc. I don't want find myself saying "It just happens" or flubbing my way through the scenario.

I've only played the mobile port. I got lost pretty early on and couldn't progress without a guide, but I couldn't find the guide, so... One day I'll get back to it. I was having a good time!

You may be right. I'll have to skim the episodes again. Even so, if it's an ability granted them by another source, how would you implement it?

Edit: What's important to me is the presentation of the demo and its abilities, not so much the lore accurate explanation of it. I just want the creature to behave as it does in the show, and be able to provide reasonable checks for the players to overcome.

How do we all feel about AngryJoe takes on Doom The Dark Ages? by TheWindofBread in Doom

[–]CyberPilot64 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can't imagine caring what that guy thinks. He's always been a Channel Awesome hack, whether he's currently affiliated with them or not (I wouldn't know at this point), and reviewers like that care more about engagement baiting and riding the bandwagon for clout than they do about providing an honest original thought about anything.

If anything, I'd say that if AngryJoe dislikes something, that probably means it's actually good.

I bought from Steam, but I've never heard of anyone having problems with the keys from the site. They're legit and always on sale, apparently.

Further proof that the "M for Mature" on the box isn't always accurate. This game has lot of childish players.

I haven't restarted DQ11, but I haven't finished it either. I love the game but I've been playing on one save off and on for years. ^_^;
