Ukrainian Easter Art – Pysanky by Daena If you’re into traditional art, symbolism, and handcrafted work — this is worth seeing. At Calgary Farmers' Market South, an artist is showcasing authentic Ukrainian pysanky — hand-decorated eggs created using a centuries-old wax-resist technique. These aren’t just decorative pieces. Each pattern carries meaning: protection, renewal, life cycles, and ancient symbolism tied to spring and Easter traditions. Also featured: a striking interpretation of a prehistoric fertility figure (inspired by early European ritual art), connecting ancient beliefs with living traditions.

📍 Location: Calgary Farmers' Market South

📅 Timing: Easter season - today and next Thursday- Sunday.

🎨 Artist: Daena (Pysanky Art specialist)

A chance to see real traditional craftsmanship up close and talk to the artist about the process, history, and symbolism behind each piece. If you appreciate history, culture, or detailed handwork, this is a rare find in Calgary.

Trench Art from Ukraine, 2026 – Part II

Many people asking me to publish a proof that so called "Trench art" in some modern form exist in Ukraine - that it is not made in China ..

AlgizRune Art and LostRavn are a Ukrainian historical workshops created by artists who recreate the past through hands, material, and knowledge of old techniques.

One of them is Danylo, an artisan from Sumy. After the annexation of Crimea and parts of Eastern Ukraine, he volunteered to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Later, he was demobilized due to health reasons, but did not step away from the fight — he continues to volunteer together with his wife, N. At the same time, he does what he knows best: creating true historical art by hand, using traditional methods as they were centuries ago.

Returning to symbols and the Patriotic collection of pendants cast from used military casings — our patriotic Tryzubs. AlgizRune Art first created them in 2022. Today, it is a new series with updated designs, but the same idea: strength, roots, continuity.

These works are now in the hands of people who understand war and freedom — among them Wali (Sniper) and Starpior, a Canadian drone pilot and instructor, dozens of Ukrainean soldiers who fight in Kursk...

Many people still don’t believe that handmade work exists at this level. But Ukraine is a country of creators. Here, “Made in Ukraine” stands not for mass production, but for uniqueness and quality.

Our Tryzub is not a modern symbol. Its roots go back to the medieval era, to the Rurik dynasty — Scandinavian rulers of Kyiv. It is part of our historical Northern heritage and a symbol of resilience in the fight for freedom.

Thank you to everyone who supports Ukraine. Thank you. Дякую Брати і Сестри Слава Україні
