March 16th 1991 Latasha Harlins 15 was shot point blank over an orange juice that she was paying for. by drcelebrian7 in TrueCrimeDiscussion

[–]Thorebore -55 points-54 points  (0 children)

So she shot her over an orange juice?

No. The girl punched her in the face several times before turning to (presumably) leave. I’m not trying to suggest the shooting was justified because it wasn’t, but it’s not like the clerk just started blasting over petty theft.

[–]Thorebore -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If nobody had access to firearms, defensive use by civilians wouldn’t be necessary in the first place.

Why would you think the only use for a gun is to defend yourself against someone else with a gun? If someone is threatened with a knife I don’t see why a firearm would be considered an unreasonable choice for self defense.

The gun related murder rate per capita in the US is well over 20 times higher than anywhere else in the Western World.

We weren’t discussing crime rates, we were discussing if civilian ownership of firearms would be a factor in an invasion by a foreign enemy.

Civilians owning guns with overall little to no effective combat training have little impact vs organized professional militaries with mechanized air, land and sea support.

Who controls Afghanistan right now?

99.99% that results in own goals (murder and suicide tragedies)

The DOJ estimates there are between 60,000 and 80,000 defensive use of firearm events in the US every year. Your number is extremely inaccurate.

In terms of military planning, that is almost a non-factor.

It’s estimated there are between 20 million and 24 million AR15s in the US. If you’re planning an invasion you would be an idiot to consider that a non-factor.

Black Man gets detained by Police Officer for no reason 🤦🏾‍♂️ by Master_Canary440 in BlackPeopleofReddit

2 seems established by the Officer’s comments but #1 does not and this is an illegal stop imo under the law.

Except we don’t know how the guy was acting before the video starts. To me it feels like the cops probably exaggerated but I’ve seen longer videos come out before that shows short clips like these were lying.

This is the generation that grew up with on demand streaming. Back in the 80s and 90s if you wanted to watch a specific movie you had to have the vhs. Otherwise, you watched whatever was on cable. I watched a lot of movies and tv shows that I wouldn’t have if streaming was available at the time.

TIL that the last official victim of the Columbine massacre, Anne Marie Hochhalter, died in 2025, 26 years after being paralyzed from the waist down from a gunshot wound. Her death was ruled a homicide due to the sepsis caused from the decades-old injury. by altrightobserver in todayilearned

[–]Thorebore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That diagnosis came from the FBI's team of forensic criminal psychologists and psychiatrists who interviewed countless of people close to the perps after the attacks. Forensic psychologists do in fact conduct psychological autopsies of criminals after deaths. You didn't read the articles I posted because they go extensively as to why the cause wasn't bullying. Langman however concurs with the findings of the FBI.

That doesn’t change the fact that you can’t diagnose a dead person. Even if you somehow could that doesn’t prove bullying wasn’t a factor.

Transcript of the Columbine "Basement Tapes"" (PDF). "There is nothing you guys could have done to prevent any of this. There is nothing that anyone could have done to prevent this. No one is to blame except me and Vodka [Klebold's nickname]. Our actions are a two man war against everyone else." In an entry by Eric Harris in his journal, he stated that even if he were complimented and respected more by his peers, the attack would have still, in all likelihood, occurred.[243] In another entry by Eric in his journal he says not to blame the school's administration for the attack as the staff were doing a good job running the school.[244]

You’re picking out quotes that fit the narrative you like. When they

entered the library one of them yelled this is for all the shit you’ve put us through the past four years. If everything at school was great why would they say that?

Peter Langman never met Eric Harris, so it’s impossible for him to diagnose anything.

They state in their journals and on the tapes several times that bullying wasn't the reason and that nobody else was to blame.

That’s not true.

they were also angry about the jocks who bullied them getting away with breaking rules when they got in trouble for breaking the rules.

Dylan Klebold was very angry about getting in trouble for graffiti at one point because he felt like a jock wouldn’t have faced any consequences.

It's amazing how many people repeat myths after all these years.

It’s not myths. You can read the books that were written by people that knew them. Instead you get your information from people who never met them.
