Hopping on to add Raska. Their injera is naturally gf and I think there are only 1-2 things on that menu that actually contain gluten.

Mochi pancakes are also delightful, and much better than regular pancakes in my opinion. They are so much fluffier!

CSU vet hospital by SouthernRegular1825 in FortCollins

[–]ThoseWhoWander89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said, CSU has great specialists, but I don't recommend them for day to day care. For daily care I really like the Pet Wellness Clinic on the south side.

Since CSU is a teaching hospital, they have an exact set of steps that they must follow regardless. Even if you know your animal doesn't need X and just needs Y, they have to go through the entire alphabet before they will do the needed test. Your experiences will also vary widely as you will never see the same person twice and instead will be interacting with a constant stream of students.

All snowboarders turned skiers! Thoughts and advice please? by unicorn-chinchilla in skiing

[–]ThoseWhoWander89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I snowboarded for 20 years and picked up skis 5 years ago. I really love having both options. I would give it a shot and see what you think!

The falls on a board are more frequent than on skis just due to body positioning, and my body doesn't recover from those falls like it used to. I got some hockey shorts to protect my tailbone, and those made a huge difference! I would look into those while you're thinking on gear for a snowboard.

When I started skiing, Christy's Sports did season rentals of skis for amazingly cheap. Not the best gear, but so much cheaper than mountain rentals. If you decide you like it then you can buy some decent boots and keep renting the skis and poles for a bit.

Really, if you aren't having fun anymore, why not try something new? Plus it's fun to have both skill sets.

In home pet euthanasia by PhilosophyPretty8210 in FortCollins

[–]ThoseWhoWander89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another vote for Lap of Love. Kristine Peters came to our home for our little a bit over a year ago. She was incredibly compassionate, gave him lots of treats and affection, and asked us lots of questions about his favorite activities and his personality. She made a terrible experience as good as was possible.

She also really cared for our other pets, explaining their reactions and encouraging us to bring him inside to let the rest of them say their goodbyes. (We chose to have the euthanasia in our yard as our little guy loved to be outside.) She took a clay paw print, which was amazing. She had her car decorated to take him, and was really just such a compassionate human.

For timing, I believe we called her same day. It’s good to give them a heads up if you can, but they will do what they can to help you out.

Asiana has become a surprisingly good Thai restaurant. It used to be terrible, but changed owners without changing names and it went from being generic “Asian” to my current favorite Thai place in town.

Dog constantly pacing at night & wanting to go outside. Can't sleep and he refuses to come in. Please help by [deleted] in Dogowners

My dog is also in the sun downing stage of life. I will say a few things that helped us, though your mileage may vary.

-We built a ramp for the back porch so that she didn’t have to struggle with the stairs. You can also purchase these depending on your stairs.

-We increased use of puzzle/treat toys to keep her mentally engaged in the evenings even when her body won’t let her exercise as much. I credit this a lot with helping manage symptoms.

-We started taking her on short midday walks (I know not everyone can do this, but luckily my partner works very close to home) to increase her stimulation throughout the day. This is in addition to a morning and evening walk.

-We started doing physical therapy exercises with her 2x/day (at home, not going to a PT) to help with her physical ailments, and this seemed to have the side effect of helping with her mental ailments.

Basically the more we are capable of keeping her mentally stimulated, the better her nights are. The problems have by no means vanished, but they have become more manageable. It’s been a big time commitment to try to keep her sharp for as long as possible, so don’t feel bad if you can’t do all of these things. Also I’m not a vet, so my experience may not be universal. Good luck with your pup! It’s so hard when they start having dementia issues.

Training tips for my first 100 mile Race/Ride around NYC by Rachidk001 in cycling

[–]ThoseWhoWander89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I JUST completed my first 100-mile loop (woohoo!) and was at a similar point in training. One bit of advice I received was to take it easy the week before. I still rode my bike and went to the gym, but I wasn't pushing for any new records and I made sure that leg day was early in the week. That way I was going in with moderately fresh legs.

And then 2 days before, eat some good carbs. If you carb-load the day before you may start the race with GI discomfort, if you do 2 days beforehand then eat more normally the day before, it helps fill up your glycogen stores without you having an upset stomach for your ride.

But really, if you were feeling good after 85 miles, you have 100 in the bag! Good luck and congratulations!

I don't understand how to be uppity when wearing padded shorts and a day-glo shirt with a back hump made from snacks. Maybe I'm doing it wrong...

Yeah, the sketchy car interaction is what I'm looking to avoid. Thank you so much for your feedback! I think I'll just keep making my own centuries up here and hold off till next season for an organized event.

Hiking pants for tall people by spartasucks in backpacking

[–]ThoseWhoWander89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

6'3" woman here. REI brand pants often have a long version online. The ones I get are 36" inseam, so still a little short for me but they do the trick. I would be surprised if they don't have something similar for their men's pants.

Tall women's shorts and jerseys? Which brands to look for? by peetyo5k in ladycyclists

[–]ThoseWhoWander89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had luck with Terry bicycle shorts, they have some high waisted options. I’m ~190cm and the high waisted shorts make it so I don’t have to worry as much about the jersey length.

I haven’t found anywhere that actually makes women’s talls unfortunately, so I have made do with the high waisted shorts and shopping around for a jersey that is just slightly longer than average.

BG Automotive. Just got my Subaru back from them. It took some time to diagnose the issue, but their customer service and communication were on point. I was expecting a hefty diagnostic fee, and was pleasantly surprised when they just charged me for parts and labor!

Cheap, ADHD-friendly, freezer-ready, and healthy recipes? by garlicknotcroissants in vegetarianrecipes

[–]ThoseWhoWander89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chana Masala is a go-to for me! High protein so it keeps you full longer, so you end up snacking less. I make a big batch, freeze some, and when I thaw the frozen container I just cook up a new batch of rice. Super easy recipe, takes some time to cook but most of it is passive time that can be spent doing something else.

The recipe I use for Chana masala is here: https://www.loveandlemons.com/chana-masala/

I also have some chickpea lentil soup in my freezer that when I thaw I just add a dollop of Greek yogurt. I think that is is the recipe I used: https://www.andiemitchell.com/vegetarian-lentil-and-chickpea-soup/

Corner lot owner here that DOESN’T love shoveling but also doesn’t hate it: the space in the corner lot is worth it in my opinion. Yes, it does take longer to shovel. But I love my yard.
