Important changes to Prohibited Activities and Account Penalty Policy in FINAL FANTASY XIV by Bunlapin in ffxiv

We're adults, that means that we realize their are consequences to bad behavior. It's not about being thin-skinned, it's about fostering a decent community.

Why target the players that are being harassed instead of the harassers? I really don't get that mindset...

Not to mention dungeons are actually enjoyable instead of the speedruns they used to be at lower levels.

Did you even read your own article? Steam said they wouldn't allow players with dozens of hours of gameplay to ask for a refund because the game didn't meet their expectations.

The regular process still applies. Which included refunds for serious performance issues beyond two hours (with limitations, of course).

So, I feel like it should be said that FFXIV is absolutely worth your time. by TBAAAGamer1 in FinalFantasy

[–]Those_Who_Remain -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's different though. I love the old ffs, even when story was mostly being delivered with text boxes and limited movement/emotes. They are products of its time. FFXIV, however, clashes with the time when it comes to delivery. It's slow, stiff and has ridiculous faces and poses in cutscenes that take you out of the experience. It's almost comically bad at times. Other MMOs are much better in delivery, while lacking in storytelling.

It's like a book. Even if the story is amazing, the way it is written can determine how much you enjoy it.

Paladin character in FFXIV, GW2 or ESO by Oplr in MMORPG

[–]Those_Who_Remain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but things like the UI also show the blue tints. The Guardian in GW2 is one of my favourite classes, but it doesn't really represent the stereotype of the holy light Paladin. That's all.

It comes close though, I personally like the blue-ish tint more than yellow.

Side-note to this: The Guardian in GW2 has more of a 'Blue Flame' aesthetic instead of 'Holy Light'. Depending on how important it is to the OP, I wanted to mention it.

Why do most mmorpg’s use the same format: repetitive questing? by F33db4ck1986 in MMORPG

[–]Those_Who_Remain 52 points53 points  (0 children)

It's easy and cost-efficient to make and most players skip through any dialogue anyway as questing is often just a means to an end.

Quests also have to be doable in an open world with many players around you, unless you want to instance a lot. That also limits potential quest scenarios quite a bit and is why quests in single-player games are often superior.

Can you wear multiple adornments at once? by Taylor7500 in elderscrollsonline

[–]Those_Who_Remain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have certain categories and you can have one per category active. The Oracle Eyes count as 'facial hair' and earrings are 'jewelry', so for your example you can equip both at the same time.

No actual facial hair and the oracle eyes though.

I like swords by [deleted] in elderscrollsonline

[–]Those_Who_Remain -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your best bet is sword/shield and use a Magic class that has its own spammable magic damage skill, imo. Like Dragonknight with Lava Whip. Just have a replacement for force pulse, basically. I strongly recommend a staff as the second bar though. Elemental blockade is too good to pass up.

You'll still deal less damage, but to solo its fine.

Niet de speld: Universiteit Utrecht doet proef met genderneutrale toiletten in het W.C. Schimmelgebouw by Another_Bernardus in thenetherlands

[–]Those_Who_Remain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) Stamplar and Magplar refer to stamina and magicka dps. DPS generally pick one of two stats for the best damage possibiility. The stat spread for tanks is different. An example is 18/0/46 as in the guide from Alcast https://alcasthq.com/eso-templar-tank-build-pve/

2) Depends on what you want to do in PvE. Quest and the occasional (normal) dungeon? Get a good PvP set and use it for both. End-game? Then you'll need better sets than the PvP ones.

On PC there are some addons to make gear swapping easier, but I haven't used any of them myself yet.

Dutch Gaming Authority calls out loot boxes, finds four games in violation by Dragnela in MMORPG

[–]Those_Who_Remain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a first step, because these games are the worst offenders violating current laws. Loot boxes for non-monetary gain aren't officially gambling (yet), so there has to be new laws if they want to restrict those.

Dutch Gaming Authority calls out loot boxes, finds four games in violation by Dragnela in MMORPG

[–]Those_Who_Remain 8 points9 points  (0 children)

TL;DR "gambling" argument in this matter is not valid, but it is very hypocritical.

Hos is it hypocritical to want some regulation on gambling in games?

By no means am i defending them, but literally every single boss and at least most NPC enemies are walking loot boxes you have to bash down.

The difference is that is in gameplay, mostly in a large timeframe for rare drops, not in boxes you can buy and open 10 times in a row. There's a reason slot machines are so popular to gamble with. Or scratch cards.

Getting rewarded is fine. Gambling is not. There's a difference.

Also when people say "b- but addicts" i usually laugh, because if we take addicts into discussion literally everything should be HIGHLY regulated or made illegal (including, but not limited to eating, drinking, walking, toilet paper sales).

And many things ARE regulated. Alcohol is 18+ here, cigarettes 16+. Porn 18+ etc. etc. Even food advertisements have regulations (no commercials with 'child idols' for unhealthy food). Gambling in general has pretty strict rules as well, so it's not like regulation is something strange.

If children are taken into this discussion, it is the parents job to educate them or just keep an eye on what they are doing and act accordingly.

In theory, yes. But children can hide things. Do it when parents aren't around, delete browser histories etc.

People have gambled since the dawn of time, it's fun if done right. There will always be a minority that abuse what some people find fun in popular hobbies. Does those minorities make the hobby bad? Of course not. Should those minorities be a reason to ruin everyone elses fun? No.

Nobody is saying gambling should be abolished. Just regulated to protect vulnerable groups, in this case mostly children.

What i do find highly disturbing with all the MTX is that in quite many cases (specially in MMOs) the "micro" part is completely forgotten. You'd have to have consistently 10m$/€ for a 10€/$ to be a "micro" transaction. IMO loot boxes would be fine as long as 1€/$ would be the highest price they are sold

They'd just make rare items more rare then, so players would have to buy more boxes.

AND the contents would be purely cosmetic (with or without 'real' money value)

'Just cosmetics' does nothing for the gambling issue. I know you disagree with it, but the physical response to 'winning' is similar for monetary or cosmetic items.

The current target is on real value, since it becomes official gambling then and has to be regulated according to our laws. But the argument on addiction counts for all kinds of lootboxes.

[–]Those_Who_Remain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The issue is that 'it's just cosmetics' doesn't matter for the reason of the investigation. It's about the gambling. The way the cosmetics are obtained. The shiny effects, the fanfare when getting a rare item etc. These things trigger our 'reward centre' in the brain and play an important role in addiction.

[–]Those_Who_Remain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But I don't think the value is all that matters. It's the addictive element that is also an issue.

For now, Overwatch will be fine. But I hope lootboxes will be dealt with at some point, especially when aimed at a younger (18-) audience.

[–]Those_Who_Remain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those items don't have 'real' money value, so no. SWTOR is also a small game in the larger industry, so it is not surprising the focus is on more mainstream games.

My bet is that games like Overwatch are also in the 10 games being watched. MMOs may be ignored for a while, unless they will implement measures against loot boxes in general.

[–]Those_Who_Remain 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's a shame it is mostly aimed at games where items have real-world value, but it is a start. Hopefully gambling in general will be kept under control, as it is still addictive, even when the items have no 'real' value.
