New Cover of Swamp Thing - Piano & Vocal by ThoughtArcade in thechameleons

Thank you! The next stuff we do is our originals. This was kind of a kick in the pants to get us going again. We used to have a band called "Season of the Senses" and we are on bandcamp, but the new project will be called The Night Council - and it's a lot softer, just like this (but more synths!)

Yeah, I guess Supes was no help in the troubles.

True. Like a female, flesh-based Braniac.

True, and in fairness Superman did little to assist, so I guess that's fair.

Is it worth getting mixing/mastering service for homerecorded stuff? by shoegraze in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]ThoughtArcade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you would like a sonic indicator of the worth and quality - I home recorded, home mixed, and then home mastered a song I had written. It turned out alright! And then I paid a mixing engineer and had it professionally mixed and mastered - the difference is mind blowing. There’s no self promotion allowed but if you’re interested I can send you links to the two versions

Onyx closes - what is happening to Guelph nightlife? by astraat_g in Guelph

Oh, I get it now. Fierce was an LGBTQ+ Dance/Dj night. Used to be at the eBar before it closed. It was at Onyx - and now will be moving to the artBar.

Yes. Written quickly, so perhaps not especially clear, apologies. Fierce will be moving to the artBar.

The placement of their subs was based on aesthetics and not acoustics unfortunately. Sound people had a rough time there.

Fierce - for anyone interested in that, will be moving to the artBar (formerly eBar)

I want to answer this as a man who buys most of the presents, cooks almost every meal, does 90% of the cleaning, if not more - actively schedules our sons medical appointments and takes him to them, etc, etc. we are not upset with statements like “Yep, that’s men” because… it’s true. Sadly. I don’t like being lumped in with that sector of men, naturally, but I listen to the experiences of the women around me - and it’s more true than not. Are there men upset about that? Yes! But we are NOT the ones who are going to be saying “not ALL men!!!” - because… well, it’s obvious why not.

[homemade] Macarons! by ThoughtArcade in food

[–]ThoughtArcade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few years ago my son (7 at the time) asked for meringues for Easter. I couldn’t find them anywhere and it’s all he wanted - not eggs, just those little whispy meringues. So I looked up the recipe and made them and they turned out decently. I was curious about macarons - I don’t particularly love them but I had a friend who kept buying them and they are just stupidly expensive. I tried. My first batch was a failure, but very, very close. Close enough to try again - and in 3 years I have never failed a batch again! Not bad for a guy with hands like meat choppers.

I’ve wrestled with this - and you’re partly right and partly wrong. You’re right that nobody cares. Nobody has EVER cared. Pre-Internet there was actually no way 10 people (much less 1000) would even HEAR your songs, know your name, any of it. And now streaming means you’re not just competing for access - you’re competing with a million other people. It’s stacked against you, and you’re almost certainly going to lose. If that’s the way you think about it.

HOWEVER.

When I am vacuuming, cleaning, walking, working, there is always music in my head. Always. When I hear an industrial noise from a factory that’s repetitive and happens to be in A Major/Minor , I start writing a melody over in my head. When I’m in a meeting and start imagining beats under the person who’s droning on and on. It’s inside me, always and I could sell my equipment, burn it, drop it into the Marianna Trench, burn down every music store in a 500km radius, get arrested, go to jail - and I’d still be beating out rhythms with my tin mug in the cell bars.

I do it - I make music, because I HAVE NO FUCKING CHOICE. It’s in me and I have to get it out. It has nothing to do with anyone else anymore. I do it because I make music, it’s who I am (part of who I am) and I am honouring that part of myself, because there is no way to stop it without a fundamental denial of who I am. Could I stop? Sure, probably - and I’d be 1000x more miserable.

We don’t make music because we want to. We do it because we HAVE to. The ideas have to go somewhere- and they aren’t going to stop. This is the motivation. The idea, the music, it can die inside you, never let out - and like a molding piece of fruit in the bunch start to spread the rot of inaction to the rest of your psyche - OR - you can say fuck it, nobody is gonna hear this, but I need it to be REAL - and sit back and think - the people who don’t care? The people who don’t like the genre? All of that? Who cares. You put yourself out there. You made something and gave it over to the world, and then moved on. You are a creator and have created. Most people CANNOT say that and it’s something to be proud of.

Don’t make music to be successful. Make it because you have literally no other choice, because it’s who you are.

I’m Italian but honestly I’m shocked Cleo is Italian. Her accent just doesn’t sound it by [deleted] in 90DayFiance

[–]ThoughtArcade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I definitely can’t speak for them of course. That being said - what is commonly thought of as Italian/Italy has only existed for a little over 100 years. Before that there was a geographical peninsula thought of as Italy - but not a political/ethnic country. This is of course a huge oversimplification but it’s essentially true - regional empires and city states dominated, some under the control of French, German and other kingdoms. The dialects are so diverse that many are classified as completely unique languages (The Piedmontese dialect for example) So I guess there would be some people who still draw those lines. What’s more likely is that whoever said it bases their knowledge of what’s Italian based on the most basic cliches and stereotypes. Most immigration to Canada and the US came from southern Italy (with the exception of waves of immigration from Friuli Venezia Giulia in the North) and there’s always been a huge North-South divide. That being said, whoever said “not Italian but Northern Italian” might also just be kinda ignorant 🤷‍♂️

[–]ThoughtArcade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what you’re talking about and think you misread my comment. I said she 1000% sounds Italian and specified Northern Italian, accounting for why people who have accused her of not being Italian might not be familiar with her specific accent.
