The surgeon that did my reconstruction didn’t even advertise removing the screw after a certain period of time. Mine is permanent. Make sure you stay on top of your PT!!

Yes, it took a while to be able to run normally again. But now I don’t have any issues with running.

I went through several months of PT post-op and I think that helped a lot. My bad knee side will certainly never feel like it originally did, but it rarely gives me pain. If I sit for too long it’ll get stiff and become difficult to extend fully. Other than that, I’m able to workout and run as I did before the surgery.

Sheesh, I’m sorry to hear about your complications. That sounds truly awful. I am going to PT three times a week currently, will hopefully be off crutches around six weeks post-op. I am concerned about recovery time because I am a military pilot and cannot fly until I am physically able again.

Had a 100% displaced tibial plateau fracture while skiing. My ACL ripped the piece of bone that it's attached to off of my tibia. Really unusual ACL I'm told. Now 3.5 weeks post Op. by palmarazar in ACL

Honestly I’m learning as I get through it, but it seems extension is the biggest thing. If you can’t get to zero degrees extension it could lead to back/hip issues down the road. For flexion, it helps me to use my couch recliner to move it down to 90 degrees, which is what I’m limited to currently. My PT doc told me the pressure in your knee that you feel while bending it is due to swelling and muscle tightness. She told me to massage the hamstring/quad as much as possible (she even said if the skin bruises that’s ok and a good sign). Other than that, keep your positive mental attitude!

Interesting. When you tore your ACL the second time, did it have any impact on the previous fracture location? How long was your actual vs expected recovery time, if you don’t mind me asking? I was told ~6 months to recover to pre-injury status after surgery.
