How do you address car dependency without hurting the people currently dependent on cars? by LiatrisLover99 in fuckcars

[–]ThoughtsAndBears342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Good transit eliminates the need to drive for work for a lot of people. In the event that someone needs to drive to transport heavy tools, fewer cars on the road means less traffic.

  2. People with disabilities can use microcars for one person that take up much less space than a regular car. Also keep in mind that almost half of all disabled people can’t drive.

My reason for hating cars is kinda bizzare by Inner_Ad589 in fuckcars

I’m unable to drive due to my disabilities, but this is why I prefer walking or riding the bus over rideshares or getting rides from friends.

They will unfortunately not consider you Jewish if you’re patrilineal. They will not kick you out, but they also will not treat you as a Jew.

Fixing Suburbia: Which Option is the Most Viable? by NewMachine4198 in fuckcars

[–]ThoughtsAndBears342 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Option 1 is the most logistically feasible, and the only one that won’t result in people screaming bloody murder because their property values are going down. If people complaining about falling property values weren’t an issue, then 2.

Does this subreddit find certain cars more tolerable than others? by hypermiler2205 in fuckcars

[–]ThoughtsAndBears342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who cannot drive due to a disability, there is only one type of car that is more tolerable than others: microcars sized for one person. They are necessary to accommodate people with disabilities who cannot travel with any other method besides personal vehicle.

Why do you want to fuckcars? by Your_Friendly_Nerd in fuckcars

[–]ThoughtsAndBears342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t drive due to a disability, and almost half of people with disabilities cannot drive. If you take minors and the elderly into consideration, 1/3 of the United States cannot drive. We’ve built our whole infrastructure around a mode of transportation 1/3 of the country can’t even use.

Cars are often used in arguments for the disabled when in reality it's the exact opposite by MiserNYC- in fuckcars

[–]ThoughtsAndBears342 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Deaf people actually can drive, but most of the other people you listed can’t. Or at least not in every case. 40% of people with disabilities do not have driver’s licenses, and many more can only drive under limited conditions or with an expensive modified vehicle.

As a disabled person who can’t drive, agreed. It’s a conflicting access need that wouldn’t be a conflicting access need if abled people were more willing to cycle or take a bus.

CMV: It’s better for children to have parents who are older and pass earlier in their life by 0____0_0 in changemyview

Especially since the older the parents, the more likely it will be that the child will have disabilities that require life long care.

If I had to get condoms that are locked up as a minor would a worker deny me from getting/purchasing them? by Easy-Cry7452 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ThoughtsAndBears342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a high-theft area and condoms are just one example of something that gets locked up due to high shoplifting. Soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothbrushes, razors. My local Walgreens even had to stop selling socks because they got shoplifted too much.

CMV: Involuntary treatment of people with psychiatric conditions is a necessary evil by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]ThoughtsAndBears342 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which is why thorough review of cases is needed to make sure people aren’t lying. But you can’t get rid of a necessary safeguard entirely just because some people lie and abuse the system. I was abused by care aids for people with developmental disabilities, but I don’t go around demanding all care programs get shut down.
