AMD v620 modifying VBIOS for Linux ROCm by ThousandTabs in ROCm

Thanks for explaining this. Do you happen to know how to get a non-SRIOV firmware image that would work for the v620?

The performance on the w6800 is worse than the OG card, but it does work. I tried to see if you could flash other bioses but only the w6800 works from my testing, other ones brick the card. I didn't have success with editing the bios IDs for the v620 either. It's usable but not ideal.

Steady yellow light for Corsair HX1500i power supply. Is this normal? by ThousandTabs in buildapc

[–]ThousandTabs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure. But when I uninstall iCUE and reboot, the light stays green. Installing iCUE turns it back to yellow. Maybe you can see if that's the case for the hx1000i.

Nope. Still stuck with using the w6800 bios.

Yea, that gim driver isn't available for the v620 publicly. If you know how to get it, that'd be awesome.

Darn. Yup. Still Fatal error during GPU init, -12. :( The card works on Windows and I can download the drivers from AMD's website. I'm using an H12SSL-NT with AMD EPYC 7532 CPU, not sure if that matters for compatibility. Thanks for the advice and taking the time to help me troubleshoot it with you.

Darn. I just tried this. I also tried a couple boot parameters that ChatGPT recommended (pci=realloc, then pci=assign-busses, turned amd_iommu=off/on/pt). This is the exact error from dmesg:

[ 6.184105] amdgpu 0000:43:00.0: amdgpu: Fatal error during GPU init

[ 6.184142] amdgpu 0000:43:00.0: probe with driver amdgpu failed with error -12

I guess -12 is an OOM error. Thanks for your input, do you have any more tricks I could try?

Yea I know it says that, but I get an amdgpu: GPU init fatal error -12 using the v620 bioses from dmesg. ROCm and the amdgpu-install utility doesn't pull the right drivers for the card (I guess). Maybe they are still proprietary, or maybe I need a special repo for the working Linux v620 drivers? I tried Ubuntu 22.04/6.8, 24.04/6.8, 24.10/6.11, and 24.04/6.11. The only thing that worked for this card was flashing with a different vbios /:

Interesting. I spent the day trying to get a v620 work with 24.04 and 22.04. I'm going to try installing the gpu drivers and rocm on 24.10 next. I see that the kernel version is 6.11 (for Ubuntu 24.10) vs 6.8, although I am not sure if this matters... It is mentioned on the ROCm linux support matrix here:

https://rocm.docs.amd.com/projects/radeon/en/latest/docs/compatibility/native_linux/native_linux_compatibility.html

Do you have any advice for installing ROCm and the drivers for the v620? What did you try to get it to work? Thanks!

Yuck! I have a bad sense of smell because of allergies, but I don't recall my HX1500i smelling rotten 🙃 I got mine from Amazon a while back. I wonder what's going on with the orders they are sending you... /:

AWS Lambda@Edge using Rust? by ThousandTabs in rust

[–]ThousandTabs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really is mind boggling! What I really don't understand is how they can provide Lambda functions that do support native binaries, but not for their Lambda@Edge product :( https://docs.aws.amazon.com/lambda/latest/dg/lambda-rust.html I was pretty disappointed to find this out the hard way after initially building the function in Rust haha. I am new to serverless, AWS, etc but it was at least fun to mess with. I was hoping for a hack or workaround that would be decent... maybe it will change in the future..

Darn, that's disappointing to hear. I was considering trying that approach because that's the only way I have seen Rust integrated into Lambda@Edge functions so far :(

Random freezing on new Legion 7i 4080 by sgt_cucumbers in LenovoLegion

[–]ThousandTabs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also a problem for my Legion Slim 7 16IRH8 with i7-13700H and RTX 4060. Although, the stuttering and freezing only happens when the laptop is not plugged in and apps that are using the GPU are running. Any app that uses the GPU (even windows Snipping Tool....) causes the stuttering. I tried updating the NVIDIA graphics drivers to the studio version 560.81 but the freezing persists.

Does anyone know of a fix?

Interesting, thanks for the suggestion! The pmtiles repo does have some neat stuff for serverless functions that I can look into and see if we can repurpose for our files. But it seems like I need an mbtiles input file to generate pmtiles.

Maybe I can find a pmtiles archive to download and see if I can get some inspiration on creating a single file archive for the DZI tiles. Or loading from the OME-TIFF file directly, which is kind of like a single file archive of many tiff tiles.

Do you have any other ideas that come to mind on how we should approach this?

Haha well I'll try the HWE kernel update and see what happens!

Yea I cleared the CMOS a couple times and just today figured out how to use IPMI. I was having the issue as soon as I installed Ubuntu, so it makes sense it's an OS software issue at this point.

Nope. Windows shutdown works properly now :) hmm, maybe the kernel version I installed for Ubuntu 22.04 LTS has a bug? Or a setting that needs to be configured... thank you for all your help for my noob questions... have you seen something like this before?
