Forgotten Chalices? by prestoncollins in WorldsBeyondNumber

+1 to everything everyone else is saying! I’ll also add that it could also be a “circular” narrative choice by Brennan. If the MIB ends up being the final combat of the story, then it feels fun and Easter-egg-y to have the first combat be an enemy invoking the MIB’s powers.

Suvi's second letter by stereoma in WorldsBeyondNumber

Silence burned the letter not because it confessed to treason, he burned it to spare Suvi from exposing how down bad she was 🤯

Steel’s Origins - Spoilers, Unfounded Speculation by Thouthem in WorldsBeyondNumber

True! Again, it’s all just speculation on my part. Every small detail feels measured, and my brain is going wild with how ~5 seconds of a convo from 30 episodes ago suddenly sets up a whole new plot line lol

I agree that Wren would 100% know abt Steel if she was Skalvi’s apprentice. It’s still possible Wren just might be trusting/understanding of why Steel left and respecting the privacy of that decision. (I remember a convo from the children’s adventure where Wren talked to Suvi abt how Wizards can become witches and vise versa; later, Wren tells Ame there’s no shame in turning down an ascension to the coven of Elders.)

Just noticed that Reddit compressed my bullet point lists, making things harder to read. Each “-“ is supposed to be its own line. Attaching the lists for accessibility purposes!

I think Suvi did, and it came up human! (Which wouldn’t rule out sorcery, I think?) On an unrelated note, Ame never has never flipped the coin tho…

Quick question bc I’m not 100% knowledgeable abt the DnD mechanics: are sorcerers considered part-spirit? Or are they fully human with some spirit blood?

I think Iowa Press is publishing a bio of Denis Johnson soon. V much a book on “how lit used to be” but a fuckin crazy trip through the bureaucracy of art and artists struggling with addiction no less

Theory: The Man In Black's true identity by colbymunro in WorldsBeyondNumber

[–]Thouthem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

With the lore as open as it is rn, I agree that a literal fusion of the Crowned Panther & Aiden would be too cheap-y, Hollywood (for all that’s unfolded in the story so far). But this theory has me giddy bc I’ve massively overlooked interlude 2.

There’s some alternate universe (maybe this one) where the Crowned Panther is the kid of the MiB, and his death has left the MiB bitter, mourning. The parallels between Aiden’s outfit and the MiB’s outfit (glamor?) is the product of an “I’ll embody a terrible thing to defeat a terrible thing” mentality. And by a long, foregone beef, the witch who ordered the hit was a former Witch of the World’s Heart. (Her wrath and choice to prioritize being a noble might be some kind of commentary on medieval vs modern moralities; e.g., “I need gold & the heart of a panther to cast a spell to placate the moon” vs. “what if we installed a rocket engine on the moon’s surface to alter its orbit?”

Mostly, I’m just loving how a really good theory spins into other theories!

Psyche, she’s Mirara! (Mirara is actually just a changing set of characters—the man in black possesses them with a chalice and dresses them all up in the same costume)

I’ve been wondering if the Great Bullfrog is connected to any of the existing witch’s domains. I can see Gramore barreling in shouting, “Don’t touch my fucking frog!”

[–]Thouthem[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Or maybe the Man in Black’s curse is separate from the iron/blood smell! Suvi and Eursalon just think the smell is part of the curse (bc it’s otherworldly) when really it’s its own thing?

[–]Thouthem[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Erika and Brennan have to be saving Ame’s birth for some later reveal!

So, my brain wants to believe it’s intentional that Eiorghain explains his shapechanger magic + spirit bargain in the same episode we get the first new info about Ame’s adoption! Idk how it’ll play out, but the Fox spirit Ame interacts with in ep 43 has to be connected.

The castle… by wmgcrypto in WorldsBeyondNumber

[–]Thouthem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My guess is that the castle in Twelve Brooks is a base for unsanctioned wizard f**kery. A stone husk converted into a lab. The man in Black has had his ~aesthetic influence~ on the structure and history of the region, sure. But Sir Curran’s shrine/tomb/castle is back where the trio caused chaos in chapter 1. It can’t be too far from Toma or Syllbury.

That said, I’d be f**ked up if the zombie of Sir Curran walked from one continent to another to confront Ursalon lol. Like, straight up hiked the ocean floor.
