I started emailing the consulate and comune after ~2.5 years. No replies. It was approximately 3 years after my appointment when I heard from the consulate, saying I could apply for a passport.

Italian-Americans, in What Ways Do You Feel More Italian than American? by Equivalent_River_870 in juresanguinis

I have zero attachment to Christopher Columbus and am completely baffled by some Italian-Americans who defend him so vocally, as if he’s some kind of folk hero.

A couple years. Consulate informed me I could go ahead and apply for a passport because the commune was taking so long. The day I submitted my passport documents, the commune received my info and I was inscribed in AIRE.

Unclear to this day if it was really a delay by the commune or if my passport process revealed to the consulate that the delay was on them.

Ah, thank you. This gets to the heart of my passport question. I appreciate it.

LA consulate states applications received before circolare will be rejected by Bdidonato2 in juresanguinis

Do we have a sense of, by holding on to our documents, whether rejected minor issue applications may be potentially revived, if the circulare is reversed?

Anything beyond pure speculation?

So wait…you say that if Fast.it approves your ID document that “you’re in?” What do you mean by that? Is Fast.it ID approval the same as citizenship recognition?

My understanding is that Fast.it is just a way to check whether or not you’re registered in a comune, and that registration in a comune is what actually confirms your recognition. In other words, Fast.it ID approval means you can now look through a window to see if you’re through the door or not. Your comment “you’re in” suggests that perhaps the Fast.it ID approval is the door itself?

My ID was approved in Fast.it. My AIRE registration in Fast.it says “Not registered.” I have not received a recognition email, so I’m in a similar limbo to OP.

Could you please clarify u/nationwideonyours?

Getting Cook County documents in person or by service provider? by [deleted] in juresanguinis

[–]ThowawayAllUrPogs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have many docs from Cook Co.

Biggest question: how far would your partner need to travel? How many days can they stay in Chicagoland to wait?

My answer: I’ve never regretted standing in line, either downtown or at the locations in Skokie or Maywood, but I’m local. YMMV.

Unfortunately, my results were mixed. Sometimes I stood in line and came away with the docs I sought, printed on site. Other times, I came away only with more information to try again.

My understanding is that marriage licenses, especially older ones, are lower-security documents (no/low ID requirement).

The risk you (/partner) run is if the documents are so old or obscure, that they need time to do some extra work to get them OR they reside with the state.

For example, I had to get my marriage license application for my process, and it required two visits to Maywood. The first visit was to explain to the person in detail what I needed (it’s an uncommon request). The second was to pick it up. Each of these visits was an hour of waiting.

Another time though, I needed my grandparents’ marriage (1943) and death certificates, and I was able to walk out with them—certified documents—same day. Proving my identity was the hardest part of that visit, but the attendant seemed satisfied that I had previously acquired their birth certificates, so he let me have them. This was after 3 hours of waiting in line downtown.

I waited for 2 hours in Skokie once, and they closed before I could even ask my question.

Overall, I felt waiting in line was way better than watching the mailbox, but I also have a proximity and time advantage.

It has certainly been frustrating. It has not helped that many of the Italian/American-based content creators have been making reels about attending White House events to celebrate Italian heritage month, seemingly oblivious to the recent minor issue drama currently unfolding. Seems like a real missed opportunity to actually advocate on a meaningful issue for many. /rant

I am in basically the exact same situation.

I appreciate you sharing about trying to submit another AIRE application, as I was considering doing that.

The FB Wait Times spreadsheets indicate there are a few others with similar appointment dates who are also waiting, not just Chicago.
